Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new year! I am really excited about being your child’s teacher this year. Third grade is going to be a year full of fun, learning, and lots of adventures and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! Your child will be given tools and the opportunities to really explore knowledge. Much of your child’s success will be determined by the communication between school and home. I would like to welcome not only your child to my class, but you as well. I consider us a team in working towards a quality education for your child. I look forward to meeting each of you at our open house on September 12th.

Homework/ Tests

Each night check my iblog to find out what your child’s homework will be.   Your child will receive reading homework daily. It is very important for your child to read 20 minutes each night. In addition, they may have to complete any work that was not finished during the day or complete a review assignment for something that we have already done in class.  It is necessary for your child to complete all homework and have an adult look over the homework. Please do not do your child’s homework for them. Grades are given for homework. If your child does not understand the assignment and no one at home can give them assistance, simply write a note on the homework. This will help me to know what your child may still need to work on. In science, social studies, and math, your child will have a study guide to study from before taking tests in these subjects. All tests taken in class will be sent home for you to sign and return to school the next day.

iBlog

Please subscribe to my iBlog:https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/jenniferburgess/                                            I will be posting weekly spelling lists, weekly focus, and  daily homework assignments. I will also post upcoming events such as test dates, late start dates, etc. on the iBlog.

Communication

If you have any questions or concerns about any of the work or tests, please do not hesitate to call or email. I will not be able to speak during teaching time, however I would  be happy to speak to you before 8:20 am or after school after 3:35 pm or set an appointment with you.

Snacks

Each day your child may bring in his/her own healthy snack.  Some healthy snacks ideas are:  fruits and vegetables, crackers, granola bars, etc.  Your child may also bring in a water bottle with a top.
