Monday’s homework; due Wednesday November 6

Please finish reading Act I.  Second hour, I know this is different than what we discussed, but I’m changing the game plan.  Continue to use your annotation page for paraphrasing and summarizing.  Your Act I quiz will take place on Wednesday.  Feel free to use the No Fear Shakespeare site, it is a great resource.  But do not copy it for your assignment.  You still need to put everything into your own words.

AoW homework

1.  Read and annotate “Loyalty:  Paradoxical Faith That “Not Ok” is Ok”.  Pay special attention to how the author defines loyalty and how that applies to your own life (text to self)

2.  Create a brace map to analyze the article using SOAPSTone.  Your frame of reference should be the article and your map question is “what does loyalty mean in real life applications?”

3.  Write a SHORT paragraph answering the following question:  Is it possible to be loyal to a person (like a spouse) AND an idea (like freedom) without shortchanging either one?  Be prepared to discuss in class at a later point.

Attention Students

I have received no less than 20 emails and blog posts about  literary letters.  Some of the questions are absolutely absurd, such as “who should we address it to?”  That is a common sense question that you are all fully capable of answering on your own, if you give it 10 seconds of actual thought.  If I do not give you a length requirement, then there is no length requirement.  If I don’t specify that it needs to be typed, then it doesn’t need to be typed.  I am not out to trick you, or change the game mid way through.  Read the directions, follow them, put your reasonable best effort into the assignment and you will be fine.

Also, I can’t help but notice that many of you waited until the last possible minute to begin this particular assignment, and now you are panicking…lack of preparation on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part…time management is essential if you are going to be successful in my class and life in general.  It seems that you did not manage your time well this cardmarking, especially since you should be putting your efforts into studying for the unit exam you have tomorrow.

Lastly, many of you are still sending me incomprehensible messages.  You need to be clear and concise in your questions if you expect a clear and concise answer.  Before you send me any other messages, stop for a second to re-read it and ask yourself “Does it make sense?”  and “Am I actually asking a question or am I simply making a statement?”  If you can not communicate your needs clearly, you can not expect them to be met.

Good night Students…and good luck, I have a feeling that many of you are going to need it.
