Supportive Presentation at New Teacher PD, Joint DFT-Admin Effort- twitter @drmaleyko

Chris Sipperley and I presented before the new teachers at Stout middle school this evening. It was a successful presentation and we had attendance of over 75 teachers.  The topic was joint union and administration cooperation which includes a heavy emphasis on evaluations.   Here is the link to the presentation.  https://humanresources.dearbornschools.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/103/2012/02/newteacherorientationsept24th2nddraft-1.ppt

New hire DFT faculty are required to attend 12 separate PD sessions on a wide variety of topics with the purpose to assist their transition to DPS.  Check out the pictures on twitter @drmaleyko

Evaluations and Goal Update including use of NWEA

Greetings Faculty,

The state has adopted legislation which will keep the student growth data weight at 25%.  Thus we are still under the same formula that we used last year. However, we are in the process of reviewing that formula since we have recently adopted the NWEA assessment. The District Evaluation Committee will be meeting on September 25th.  Please understand that any changes in the formula will be deliberate and will take some time as we implement this new assessment.  It is fine to create goals without getting specific on the NWEA portion as we learn about the best way to use and implement this new assessment.

As a result,    Goals should be written and approved by September 30th for Plan 1 and October 25th for Plan II teachers.   As far as how to measure growth state the following as an example: “multiple measures will be used  including NWEA, Lexile data, MEAP (3 year data), etc. ”  Specific formulas for the amount of growth in NWEA will be determined by the evaluation committee and may be added at a later date.
