Greetings,

I am posting emails that were sent out this week regarding this training.

Sent from Mr. Patterson and Media Services.

Subject: Badges for Required Training
To: “Staff-AllDistrictEmployees@dearborn.k12.mi.us District Employees” <Staff-AllDistrictEmployees@dearborn.k12.mi.us>

Recently Dr. Maleyko sent out a reminder about the required courses to be completed by all staff members: The Response to Bullying Behavior Course, The OCR Staff Training Course and The Bloodborne Pathogens Course. A few things have come to light:

  1. It can take up to an hour for badges to be completely issued.
  2. There can be a delay of up to 5 minutes before Activity completion is shown.
  3. Many employees have not completed the Survey in the Response to Bullying Behavior Course.
In order to answer the most common questions efficiently, we have created a blog post that provides guidance and information. Please check the blog post for answers to your questions. If you still have questions, please contact the HelpDesk at 73003.
Thank you for your hard work. We have made some adjustments to the process to make it easier to use and report. We will continue to streamline and clairify the process as much as possible.
Many of you emailed Dr. Maleyko with similar questions.  Please accept this email a response to those questions regarding the required training.
* Please do NOT respond to this email. This email account is not read by humans.*

Hello Everyone,

I have received well over 100 emails with technical and/or troubleshooting questions that are similar in nature related to the on-line required classes and the popular badges. Mr. Patterson and the Media Services Department will send out an email in the next day or so to address the issues that have been sent to me. Thus individuals should not expect to receive a response to their email from me directly but will receive the email from Media Services as a follow-up to questions that were sent to me. We appreciate the questions and feedback and I have met with Mr. Patterson and Mr. Kenniburg to discuss some of the issues and possible improvements moving forward.

Thank you for your cooperation and all the best for a great year in 2015.  I also want thank to Mr. Patterson and Mr. Kenniburg for their excellent assistance with these on-line classes.

Substitute School District Assignments Can Lead To Permanent Employment: Follow me on Twitter @drmaleyko

Click Here for the Press Release

Here’s good news for individuals who are seeking a new job with the start of the new year.  It’s no guarantee but for many permanent staff positions in the Dearborn Public Schools, taking a position as a substitute eventually leads to permanent employment and the time to apply is now!  The District is actively seeking qualified candidates to be substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, food service workers, bus drivers, bus attendants and custodians.

Working as a substitute provides individuals with the opportunity to experience being a part of the Dearborn Public Schools team without making a commitment to a full time position.  For those seeking permanent employment, working as a substitute is a great way to demonstrate abilities and talents to those making hiring decisions.  This also is a great opportunity for retirees who do not wish to return to permanent employment but would still like to remain an active member of the workforce.

Dearborn, along with hundreds of districts in Michigan, Indiana, and Tennessee, has a partnership with Professional Educational Services Group or PESG to fill most substitute staffing needs.  Those who would like to apply to become a substitute teacher, paraprofessional, or food service worker must submit applications at the PESG website, www.subpass.com.

Substitute custodians, bus drivers, and bus attendants should apply directly on the Dearborn Public Schools website: humanresources.dearbornschools.org/.

All substitute applicants must pass a background screening, be fingerprinted under the State of Michigan Child Safety Legislation, and be approved by a school district before beginning employment with PESG and its Family of Companies.

Substitute teachers do not need a teaching certificate but must have completed at least 90 credit hours at an accredited university.  Paraprofessional substitutes must have a high school education or equivalent.  They assist teachers in special education and/or regular education classrooms, providing assistance in meeting the physical, emotional, nutritional, and management needs of students.

For bus drivers, the district will provide training however applicants must then obtain the required licenses.  Bus attendants accompany the driver, assisting students and maintaining order on the bus.

Find out about current job openings and hourly pay rates in the Dearborn Public Schools at humanresources.dearbornschools.org/ or call the Human Resource Office at 313-827-3002.

Gallagher Office Contact New Phone Number.

Welcome to the New Year!  I hope this email finds everyone in great spirits.

This email is to keep you informed with phone number information for the District.  To better serve your employees and fellow union members we have simplified the phone system.

The phone number that individuals should call for information regarding their medical, dental and vision is 888-222-4309 (This is the current toll free number in place).  This will be utilized for all.  This phone number will allow employees to have support through NGE from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday throughFriday.  The Gallagher Office at the DFT building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed for lunch.  This toll free number has access to the Call Center as well as transfer abilities to the Gallagher Office for NGE support to your staff.

This one step process will be more effective for employees.  This will allow quicker resolution to employee questions and concerns.  Currently staff is calling the local number and whenever NGE staff is with an employee a voice message is left for a return call.  Which starts the phone tag game.  With the new process the majority of issues can be resolved with only one call and have happier results for all.

Phone Numbers:

888-222-4309 = Utilized for DSEHP Support Services

313-982-3292 = Discontinued as of 1-12-15 with intercept service for 90 days providing new number

313-982-3295 = Discontinued as of 1-12-15 with intercept service for 90 days providing new number

313-982-3299 = Fax Number will be discontinued as of 1-12-15

A message will be provided to forward to your employees but wanted to make sure that each of you was also aware of the change in phone numbers.

As always, thank you for the opportunity to be of service.

Reminder on FMLA requirements.

Greetings to all,
This is a reminder that employees wanting to qualify for protections under the Family Medical Leave Act must give advanced notice of 30 days or as soon as practicable. If advanced notice of 30 days is not possible employees should provide an explanation as to why it was not possible.  Notice is to be given to the Human Resources Department and must be in writing.
We are seeing an increase in FMLA request.  It is important for the protection of all employees that we review these requests and verify that the leave is eligible for FMLA protections.
Additional information on FMLA can be found on the Human Resources Blog page for FMLA and leaves.
