Thank you for those of you who were able to make it out to parent-teacher conferences. I really enjoyed meeting all of you and discussing your child’s progress. It seems that we all agree that reading is the key to expanding the minds of our young ones. As I push kids here to pick up a book and read, please make sure to continue motivating your children.

If you tried to meet with me but was unable to or had a previous engagement and couldn’t make it, please feel free to email me at houryf@dearbornpublicschools.org to touch base. I would be more than happy to email back or to give you a call.

We are working through the writing process: evaluating and knowing what the prompt question is asking, producing a solid thesis that responds intentionally to the prompt, developing a hook and providing background information. We completed a skeleton of what our introduction should look like. Students – make sure you build on what we developed.

We will continue to work on Body paragraph 1 tomorrow together.

Tentative due date for the completed essay is Friday, November 22, 2019.

We have started working on our “Dirk the Protector” essay by going through the process. Students have their prompt question and graphic organizer. I will be leading, then asking them to work on parts of this on their own. They have guides to help them in their resource section of the binder. Today, we were able to break down the prompt question to make it more accessible and understandable. Students also developed responses to the prompt by creating thesis statements which we will assess more closely tomorrow. The tentative due date for this essay is Friday, November 22, 2019.

Conferences will commence on Monday from 4-7.
