April 3 Update

April 3, 2020

Dear parents and students,

We hope this message finds you and your family doing well.  It is an unusual and unpredictable time for all of us, but we hope you are making the most of your time at home.  As you may already know, the Governor announced yesterday that schools will not resume for the remainder of the school year.  This may be the best decision for our health and well being; however, this means that we may not have the opportunity to see each other in person for a while.  Our communication with you will continue through email, the blog, and Google Classroom. If you have questions, concerns, or just need to reach out to us, please feel free to send an email.

We have just finished our first three weeks of enrichment activities.  Next week is Spring break, so we urge you to get some rest and get caught up on any enrichment activities you may not have completed.  We will communicate with you on Monday, April 13th to update you on the direction moving forward.

We miss your smiling faces!

Stay safe and healthy,

The 7th Grade ELA Teachers

March 18 Update

I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

Please note that many students have yet to visit Newsela to complete this week’s task.

For those of you that have completed the tasks, I have provided feedback on your writing and for some, I have returned it for revision. In the case that I have returned it for revision, please revise and resubmit per my suggestions.

I have also taken the liberty of resetting your quiz scores if you have 50% or lower so you make retake those. If you earned a 75% and would like me to reset your score so that you may have another opportunity, please let me know and I would be happy to do so. To reset your quiz send me an email at houryf@dearbornschools.org.

Reminder: if you make up an IXL skill that you had missed, please email me letting me know so that I can grade it. Make sure you wait a day or so and then visit student connect to check that your score has been updated.

Stay safe!

Making up missing IXL work

Hello, I hope this message finds you doing well. I hope you took the time to read the last blog with online assignments. I have posted it below as a reminder. I am so glad to see that so many students have already completed Letter O for IXL with 80% and above smart scores – good job! For those of you who haven’t , please prioritize your work for each of your subjects so it doesn’t become overwhelming. And don’t forget, READ, READ, and READ. Pick up a novel, a newspaper, get online and read the latest, just keep READING!

For IXL: if you are missing any of the IXL work, please make sure to complete. This may include any of the following that are past due: F, H, NN, PP, J, and K. I entered the scores for K so you can now see if you see your grade for that. Note that you must complete all the numbers under each skill. Don’t pass up this opportunity.
