We finished reading “A Retrieved Reformation”. We will finish up our Question/Answer/Evidence worksheet in class tomorrow after our quiz/writing.
There will be a 7 question assessment tomorrow over the reading as well as a written response. Assessment focus: irony, internal/external conflict, Third person point-of-view, dynamic/static character, inference, theme, and figurative language. We will talk about these more on Monday. If you would like to review the reading at home just google A Retrieved Reformation PDF and it will pop up as one of the items on the search list.
You will also write a CER in response to a prompt.
Make sure you are ready!

Weekend H.W.: If you have yet to finish the Malala CER and the reading of the article on the Boys in Thailand who got stuck in the cave please do so by Sunday. The CER is a summative score.
Have a restful weekend!
Reminder that tomorrow is the SAT 9 quiz. Make sure to finish up your NewsELA readings (CER) so that you can have a restful weekend. You have had 2 weeks to finish these!! They are due on Sunday but it doesn’t hurt to get things done ahead of time.
You have experienced your first impromptu and timed writing assignment this year. I know a lot of you were anxious about the experience and felt really under pressure but you were still able to produce a product to submit. This is an important experience as it helps you train to think quickly within a timed limit. We will continue to do this throughout the year.
Homework: SAT 9 quiz is this Friday
Continue working on your Newsela assignments: Malala (CER) Thai Cave (read, highlight, annotate)
Below is the link for the story from today’s class to refresh your memory in preparation for tomorrow’s impromptu. Make sure your bring your notebook to class so that you can use your T-Chart on Point of View for the impromptu. You will write a CER during the time limit and will be able to use your T-Chart and the textbook. I will give you the prompt at the beginning of the designated time along with the rubric.

Your CER on the NewsELA article (Malala) is due by Sunday
Make sure you read the article on the Boys in the Cave, highlight and annotate by Sunday
REMINDER: parent teacher conferences are next week. Please encourage your parents to come in and feel free to join your parents. Times are as follows:
Monday: 4-7 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:30-6:30 p.m.
You should have completed the SAT 9 worksheet in class today as well as finished reading the story about Malala. I hope you feel inspired by her story. Did you notice in the article the mention of November 10th being Malala Day. That is tomorrow! Do you believe you can change the world as this human has? What can you do to contribute? Think of her story and that of the young lady who went to Napal and changed the lives of 200 orphans.
If you didn’t finish the SAT 9 worksheet, make sure to do so for Monday so that you are prepared to contribute to the discussion.
Please note that in writing your responses on NewsELA, you must respond to the prompt with: claim, evidence, elaboration. Make sure you are answering the prompt thoroughly. Unless the prompt is asking you for personal feedback, you should not use I, me, you, we (first and second person point of view). In addition, you must abide by the conventions: capitalize the first word of every sentence, use correct spelling, use the correct version of the word, and use punctuation where needed. You must also cite your textual evidence correctly: (Bowen).
Some mistakes we have covered in class, yet I am finding them in your writing:
Their vs. There
Their= possessive/belonging to
There = in time and space – over there
Then vs. Than
Then = next, after, second
Than = comparison as in more than, less than
