Holly’s Hero’s

Updates

1. Schools will now be closed THROUGH April 13.  We were planning to return that day, but now are scheduled to return Tuesday, April 14.  Obviously, that could change as the situation evolves.

2. Free meal distributions will continue during the shelter-in-place period.  Providing food is an “essential service.” In fact, we now are planning to extend the meal distribution through our spring break, so food will be handed out Monday to Friday through at least April 13.

3. Online learning will continue.  While current state law says the learning cannot count as “seat time,” Gov. Whitmer has clarified that “does not mean that school work done during the mandatory school closure won’t ‘count’ toward grades, credits, or graduation.”  (Teachers and students are still officially scheduled for spring break from April 6-10, so there might be a week off during your weeks off.

Dearborn Public Library

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!~ Rocky Balboa ~

Be safe and reach out to us if you have questions.

Classroom expectations for remote learning:

Over the next few weeks until we can attend school again, I will be posting assignments in accordance with the district’s expectations for remote learning which means that I will be posting daily articles this week relating to various aspects of World History and the Industrial Revolution for you to read and ponder its significance. I will also be posting assignments with various due dates.

As a social studies class Ms. Colter and I want to support you in your goal of having an SRI score of 1200 (roughly the reading level of an 11th grader during the last half of their junior year) and providing you with relevant articles is a great way to support you. Now, as the next few weeks provide us with clarity to the state and district’s plans, we might offer alternative assignments or a more rigorous curriculum but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Finally, take care of what is important:

This should go without saying but during the next few weeks make sure that you are not only taking care of those around you but that you are taking care of yourself. Set goals for yourself that will help you be a better person and develop a sense of pride in the young man or woman that you’re becoming. Focus on staying healthy but come back to school in a few weeks a better version of you than I have met before who is ready to work and close this year out right. But most importantly get plenty of rest, wash your hands after touching your face and don’t cough on anyone!

Have a great day, WE MISS YOU
