Here is what you can expect your child to be doing and learning in class this week. As always, please contact me with any questions.
Language Arts:
We will continue to learn the comprehension strategy of asking and answering questions before, during, and after reading to fully understand a story. We will continue to practice looking back in a text to find evidence to answer questions. We will practice highlighting text evidence and rephrasing the question when writing our answers.
We will review adjectives and introduce adverbs. We will practice how to use these parts of grammar to expand out sentences.
I will continue administering the DRA reading test one-on-one with students throughout the week so we can get started soon with small group reading instruction. As soon as I begin groups, you can expect reading bags to come home daily for reading practice at home. Remember, your child should be doing 20 minutes of reading every at home every day.
Writing:
We will continue to focus on narrative writing. Last week we learned how create events and details for our prompt “A Trip to the Apple Orchard.” This week, we will continue planning for this piece by learning about different types of leads to use to “hook” our readers.
Math:
We will continue to learn about multiplication and how it relates to division.
Science:
Our focus for science will continue to be force and motion. We will be conducting an investigation this week where students will be able to explore the idea of friction and its effect on the speed of an object.
Social Studies:
Moving along with geography of Michigan, we will learn about direction and location of a place.
Spelling:
Our words this week will focus on short and long e spelling patterns. Please study these words with your child each night so they can be prepared for the test on Friday. Remember, they will have 5 “surprise” words on Friday that are not on the spelling list, but follow the spelling pattern.
Have a great week!!!
