Weekly Update

This week, our class worked hard to get into a school routine. With the technology elements working better, we have been able to get work completed and submitted with very few issues. We also spent some time exploring some of the different zoom tools (such as break out rooms) in order to make online learning more interesting and exciting. These new tools will take some practice before we are comfortable using them, but it was a good start. We are definitely taking steps in the right dierction.

Below are some reminders that will help make our learning time more successful:

  • Please help your child arrive on time to all meetings. This will keep the lesson flowing smoothly without disruption since I have to manually allow students to enter the meetings. Setting timers or reminders might be helpful.
  • Please help reinforce appropriate behavior at home. During our meetings, it is important to remember that we are “at school” and need to stay focused.
  • Please read all directions for posted assignments. Some students are very eager to get their work turned in, and skipping this step. Students are being held accountable for all work. Please use best effort.
  • Attendance is being taken for all meetings. If your child will be missing school please contact the office to report the absence.

We will plan to begin NWEA testing next Tuesday. This will be done remotely on a Zoom meeting with cameras on. Students are expected to take their time and try their best. This test is an important tool that helps guide my instruction for small groups for reading and math. It is important that I see what each child can do on their own without guidance from an adult.

Last but not least, don’t forget that tomorrow is a half day! We will have both of our morning meetings but no afternoon assignments or meets. Teachers will be in professional development all afternoon.

Third Grade Information

Good Morning Families!

I hope we are all settling in and adjusting well to our new school routine. Yesterday was a fantastic day! As one student said, it was a “slam dunk” in regards to how smoothly things ran. I am hopeful that as we continue to learn and adjust, things will get easier each day.

I have some information that I need to pass along. Students will still be taking NWEA this fall. So that means that starting next week we can expect our class to get started with that. I will keep you posted on the details as I am still wrapping my brain around how this will work virtually. Stayed tuned for more information.

In person learning labs have been postponed by the district for now. I will still be setting up virtual small group instruction in the near future for reading and math.

I also want to thank you for your continued support as we navigate through the world of virtual learning. I am a firm believer that it takes a village when it comes to raising and educating children, so thank you for being part of my village!

First Day Success

I want to give a BIG “Thank You!” to all the parents and family members who helped out today getting students online and problem solving any technical issues that came up! There were a few glitches, but overall I feel we had a very successful first day! Get lots of rest tonight as we will be back at it bright and early in the morning! Our first meeting is at 9:00 (this will be every day). Enjoy your evening!

Tuesday September 8th

Tomorrow is the first REAL day of 3rd grade!!!!! I am so excited, I can hardly wait! Here are some tips to help make the day go smoothly.

  • Our day begins at 8:55. Please have your child log onto Schoology at this time to be ready for our first meeting.
  • All meetings, links, and assignments will be posted on Schoology Tuesday morning. Be sure to look for the Tuesday button of folder.
  • It will be helpful to have a pencil and some paper (or a whiteboard and marker) ready and close by.
  • Please make sure your child has eaten breakfast and used the restroom BEFORE 8:55 to avoid distractions.
  • If your child has any trouble getting on schoology or our meetings tomorrow please email me as soon as possible. I will be checking my email often and will contact you as soon as I can to help.
  • There will be several meeting times tomorrow. It might be helpful to set a timer or alarm as a reminder.

I am looking forward to our first day on online learning together! It’s going to be an exciting adventure!

Material Pick Up

I enjoyed seeing several of you today during our class meeting! If you were not able to get on zoom today, please don’t worry! This is new for all of us and will take a bit of practice before we get the hang of it.

Right now I have almost every family scheduled for an orientation meeting. If you have not heard from me yet, please confirm with the office that the correct phone number is on file.

Materials for our class can be picked up tomorrow between 9:00 – 12:00 at door number 1. There will be a staff member at the door to pass out materials. Everything will be in a bag for our class with your child’s name on it.

If you are unable to pick up tomorrow, please send me an email and we can make other arrangements.

Monday Meeting

Happy First Day of School!!! I am so excited to meet all of you today and throughout this week! We have been told that Zoom should be working for all teachers and students so I still plan to meet with you at 10:00 today. I can’t wait! There has been one change of plans however. We are not able to post Zoom links to the blogs for security reasons. So, I have emailed all student accounts with the Zoom link. Have your child log into google with their student ID and password (ID is their student number and the password is their numerical birthday). The ID and passwords are the exact same as what they used all last year to log into their accounts. Once they are logged into google, they can go to their student gmail accounts.

If I have not made contact with you yet to set up an orientation meeting, please know that I will be working on that this afternoon. Orientation meeting links will also be sent to student accounts for security purposes.

Hope to see you soon!

First Week of School

Welcome Back!

I spent most of yesterday afternoon making phone calls to all 20 families that were on my class list as of yesterday (Friday). I truly enjoyed speaking with those families who I was able to make contact with. I just know that we are going to have a great year.

If you missed my call yesterday, please know that I will be trying again very soon to schedule an “Orientation Meeting” with you. In the meantime, I am planning a class Zoom “Meet the Teacher” Monday morning at 10:00. I will be posting the Zoom link here on my blog. Look for that Monday morning.

That being said, late yesterday afternoon, teachers were informed that students MIGHT not have access to Zoom by Monday morning. If this happens, I will move to plan B and post a welcome back video and read aloud for the class here on the blog.

I appreciate all of your patience and understanding as we get this year rolling. I am sure there will be a lot of bumps in the road as we get going, so please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.

Hopefully I will see all of your smiling faces on Monday morning!
