Monday March 9, 2020

We are running low on kleenex so if anyone can send in a box of tissues, the students will appreciate it.

1/2 day this Friday March 13. School dismisses at 11:45–no lunch will be served.

Our reading strategies continue from last week focusing on key details in a text, making connections with the text, using words and illustrations to better understand the characters, determining the characters point of view, as well as the central theme or message of the text.

Spelling words were given last week due to the snow days. They are: book, look, cook, shook, foot, good, stood, wood, put, push. Test will be Wednesday.

The students are doing well planning a narrative story. This week they each will be working on developing strong main character traits and thinking about how their character’s actions and feelings change from the beginning of the story to the end.

Math continues learning strategies for adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers up to 1,000. Please continue to have your child practice their basic math facts as this will help with this new skill.

In our social studies unit we’re learning about how government effects our daily lives: making laws for our community, providing services, keeping us safe, and helping to solve problems. This week we’ll be discussing how the core democratic values get balanced with the common good of a community using a book called Old Henry.

Any of you are welcome to come in to read to our class. We would love it and I can have a book ready for you to read or you can bring one of your own. Just let me know 🙂

Enjoy the week!
