Good Morning! I hope you had an enjoyable weekend.

Late Start this Wednesday September 25. School will begin at 9:35.

Most students have been assessed for their current reading level so books in their reading bags should be coming home. Those books are at a level they can read by themselves. They will be learning skills and strategies at a level higher.

We continue this week with becoming familiar with the routines for our new reading program. The reading strategies this week include text to self connections, using word chunks to help read words, making pictures in your head of what is being read. Our phonics this week focuses on “ar, or, ore, oar, er, ir, ur, ou, ow, oi, oy, oo, ou, ew. We will be taking an online assessment from Benchmark. The students today will sign into my iLearn course to take the test tomorrow.

We’re also building our stamina for reading to self. I will introduce buddy reading this week as well. We’ve been using the ipads for listening to books online.

Social Studies continues learning about Dearborn and comparing it to other communities.

In science we will create something using everyday materials. I don’t want to give it away 🙂 They’ll show you on Friday (if all goes well with our schedule).

Math continues with the measurement unit and learning about centimeters and meters, when it’s best to use one or the other to measure objects.

Enjoy your week.
