Late Start this Wednesday. School begins at 9:35.

Library check out day is Thursday. If your child brought their library book home, please remind them to bring it back to school Wednesday.

Spelling words this week focus on consonant blends with s: spell, step, slide, skin, skip. The Dolch words are: help, you, came, new, best.

We’re continuing reading and learning about words that stand for sounds in books as our reading strategy this week. Also how does the use of repeated lines throughout a story help us understand the story?

This is our last week for a bit for opinion writing. Our opinion this week will be on the topic of Christoper Columbus and if we would have joined him on his journey across the ocean? We’ll be making a picture graph displaying our results. I also get lots of great opinions and thoughts on this topic 🙂 This ties in nicely with our new Social Studies unit on maps and learning about our community through map skills and using the direction words: north, south, east, west.

In math, we’ve started a new unit on measurement. We’re starting with using centimeter cubes to measure, then lead into centimeter rulers and meter sticks.

Our Science concept continues with properties of matter. This week’s property is meltability and learning that different products have different temperature points they melt at.

Halloween: We’ll be having a small party in class after the school wide parade in the afternoon. No gory or violent costumes allowed, including weapons that come with costumes. A note will be sent home closer to Halloween.

Enjoy the week!
