Happy Rainy Monday 🙂
I sent home a note last week about thin gloves/socks for a science project this week. Please have your child bring them to school within the next day or 2. They’ll be returned, only to be used to test for hotness/coldness of an object.
Spelling words this week focus on the “o” sound: fox, lock, pop, poke, cone, those, cold, stop, open, old.
Our reading strategy this week will focus on how the main character of a story reacts to a major event. We’re reading about a young girl who’s family moved to America from Korea. She resists learning to spell her name in English.
We’ll begin a new writing unit. Our new unit is opinion writing and support our opinion with 2-3 reasons. “Because it’s fun” or “Because I like it” will be stretched to why it’s fun or why they like the topic. The topic will be fun things to do in Dearborn/why Dearborn is a nice community, etc. A homework sheet will come about this as well.
Math will focus on continued fluency as well as numbers and operations in base ten. We’ll get into subtracting from 2 digit numbers. The parent homework helpers will come home with the homework sheets to help you understand this new program.
Science will continue to focus on the properties of matter. This week, as I said above, will focus on hot/cold properties.
We’ll also have our first library book check out on Thursday. I believe the students will be able to check out 2 books this year, based on past practice.
Enjoy the week!
