Math- Starting Tuesday work on lessons 8, 9, 10 in Learn, and Succeed. Lesson 8 has been posted online here https://gm.greatminds.org/en-us/knowledge-for-grade-4-em-m5l8 and should be reviewed from last week. Lesson 9 and 10 will be posted Tuesday and Wednesday here- https://gm.greatminds.org/en-us/knowledge-for-grade-4 . Complete these lessons in Zearn and fill your Reflex Math donut every day.

Writing- Complete the paragraph of the week titled My Teacher. Have it published no later than Friday. Complete two lessons on Quill.org based on your pre-assessment.

Reading- 25 Minutes of reading to self every day. You can complete your Matilda work during this time or do it separately. For Matilda “Week 3- Pages 121-180 or 12 pages a day” and fill out one summary for the pages by Friday, character traits for the characters which are introduced, and one extension on what you would do if you were Matilda in her situation. Spend 45 minutes this week on your Freckle reading assignments.

Math- Finish lessons 6, 7, and 8, in Learn and Succeed. Fill your Reflex Math donut 5 times during the week.  Complete at least 2 lessons on Khan Academy Mappers. You want to pick your lowest area on the website to practice. Make sure you log into the Mappers website to get the suggestions based on your NWEA scores.

Writing- Complete the paragraph of the week titled Bedtimes. Have it published no later than Friday. Complete two lessons on Quill.org based on your pre-assessment.

Social Studies– Work on your Government Tree Project

Week of 3/3/20

This week launched March is Reading Month. Look for a guest reader sign up to be coming out soon. We would love if you could come to room 30 to read a favorite picture book to the class. Book Bingo is this Wednesday from 6:00-7:00. A flyer will be coming home today.

This week:

Math: We have finished Module 4 and will have our assessment tomorrow. A study guide will be coming home today and we will launch Module 5 on Thursday.

Writing: We started a how-to piece of writing in order to focus on details. We will be doing an activity where we follow the directions written by the students. We will then go back to previous pieces of writing and focus on adding details back in.

Social Studies: We have started completing our research for our Government Tree Project. All of the research will be completed in class and the project itself will be assembled at home.

Science: We are working on a virtual fossil excavation and webquest. We are going to be using the information on fossils to understand how different layers in the earth’s crust can be used to tell scientists information about that time period.

Reading: We are creating a summary flapbook on our new book “The One and Only Ivan.” We are using the book to review all of our past strategies from the year. We will be heading into a unit on informational text next.

Week of 2-24-20

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing week. This week we are back off and running in room 30. We are running very low on glue sticks if anyone would like to donate any to the classroom.

This week:

Math: We are working on the second half of our geometry module. We are still using protractors and we will be looking at categorizing quadrilaterals.

Science: We are learning the types of fault lines and what landform each fault line is likely to create. We will be creating a model of the layers of the earth include fault lines.

Social Studies: We are getting more specific in our studies of each branch of the U.S. government. We will have a project assigned next week using research completed in class.

Writing: We are focusing on small moment narratives. We are working on strong conclusions to give the reader a sense of completion.

Daily 5: We are working on summarizing. This will be used in both fiction and non-fiction texts.

Week of 2/3/20

Happy Monday. I hope everyone is enjoying this bit of a warm-up happening outside. We have the Book Fair going on this week. Today is our preview day and depending on when we have volunteers, we will have shopping time during the week or during Book Bingo. Book Bingo is on Thursday from 6:00-7:00. There will be concessions, Book Fair shopping, and every child leaves with a book. It is $2.00 a person to play. Seats for the Book Fair Book Bingo tend to go quickly and it is usually the busiest Book Bingo of the year. I hope to see you there. Wednesday is a late start as well.

This week:

Math: We are reviewing line types and measuring angles. We will begin a project using all of our geometry information in the next day or so, which means Succeed homework will be light this week.

Science: We are going to be creating models of the earth’s layers. We could still use yarn donations in earth tones.

Social Studies: We are learning about the Preamble and what information it holds.

Writing: We are working on a small moment narrative and focusing on using quotation marks correctly.

Daily 5: We are focusing on informational text. Our main strategies right now are sequencing and making inferences within an informational text.

Week of 1-27-20

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. This week we are finishing NWEA. We are mainly working on Language NWEA but some students are still working on Math. We will be finished by the end of the week as the window to test closes. Next week is the Book Fair and the matching Book Bingo. I hope to see everyone there.

This week:

Science: We are continuing in our unit on the processes of the earth. We are focusing on the formation of volcanos and the causes of earthquakes.

Math: We are in Module 5 and we are working on different line types. We are specifically looking at lines, line segments, rays, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines.

Writing: we are starting a personal narrative. The prompt is “A winter day you will never forget”

Daily 5: We are starting a big push on informational text. We will be applying our fiction strategies to informational text with a focus on locating information.

Social Studies: We are working on the US Government. We are focusing on the branches and the powers of each branch.
