Science: Students are going to be starting the first drafts of their planet books, using their research.

Writer’s Workshop: Students are starting new narrative pieces.

We are finishing our book report movie poster presentations this week.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Thanksgiving Break Update

Hello Everyone! I hope each of you has had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends. It is going by quickly! I wanted to send a quick reminder that students have brought home their new reading log work and they should be completing it each day. We also encourage the students to practice Mobymax each day over break, if possible. It works on tablets and even smart phones. The students are doing well mastering objectives that they have missed in other grades and I would like to see their progress continue!

Secondly, for those of you who have heard of or participated in the events for Lexys Lamp from DuVall Elementary, I have some news on a pancake dinner to help her family during their time of need. Lexys was a 1st grade student at DuVall who was diagnosed with DIPG. She recently passed and to help assist her family with the mounting medical bills a pancake dinner will be held at DuVall on Wednesday, December 2nd from 5:30-7:30. If you are unable to attend the dinner but would like to support this local Dearborn Public Schools family, donations can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/LexysLamp

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and we will see you on Monday!

Mr. Hawkins

Update for this week.

Thank you to everyone who has already sent in food, donated or pledged for our Thanksgiving dinner. You allow us to keep doing these activities in our classrooms and we are very thankful for each person involved in our rooms!

Yesterday a sheet came home about a math morning and some of the information was not updated. There is a new sheet coming home today in each classroom that has the correct information. Please ignore the first sheet.

Coming home today is also a field trip sheet for the Lansing trip. Due to the high level of interest, we are going to try to add some of our students to the field trip but we require a $20 deposit to be turned on Monday, November 30th. We have to reserve the space on a bus so no late deposits will be able to be accepted. Thanks for your help.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Week of 11-23-15

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great weekend and was able to enjoy the first snowfall of the year. We have a short week this week with the break so we will not have spelling this week.

For the Thanksgiving Feast, please make sure you have the food you signed up to donate, at the school before 12:45. We will be eating at 1:00 so warm food should be brought in around 12:45. We will not have kitchen access so everything must be prepared.

Math-This week we are finishing unit 3 and will have our unit test tomorrow morning.

Spelling-We are reviewing previous spelling patterns

Reading-Students are continuing to work on their reading strategies and will be presenting their book report posters to the class.

Science-Students are collaborating through Google Docs with the class on developing information which will be used to publish solar system books.

Social Studies-We are having our Pilgrim and Native American feast.

Our monthly PBIS celebration is on Tuesday and students will be encouraged to bring board games from home, with their names on them. They will have an one hour board game celebration with the 4th and 5th graders who also met the 80% positive points on Class Dojo.

Homework over break. Students will be bringing home new requirements for the nightly reading homework assignment and we highly encourage all students to practice Mobymax Reading, Math and Vocabulary daily over break.

Have a great week and a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Feast

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for all of the responses so far for the Thanksgiving Feast, next week. I wanted to send an update for what we still need. We need mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing still. If you would like to send in one of these items next week, please comment on this post with what you would like to bring so we can see what has been donated already.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Week of 11-16-15

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their week. In the next two weeks we have lots happening. Tomorrow is picture retake day. We also have Nowlin/Blue shirt day for spirit week. Tomorrow is our first chess club meeting at 8:00 in room 26. We also need Thanksgiving Feast permission slips and the $2.00 turkey fee cost turned in before the end of the week. We will not be able to cook/warm any food at school unfortunately.  We are holding a school wide canned food collection for Gleaner’s Food Bank so please send in any canned food or non-perishable items you can spare. Every donation goes to a family in need.
