STEM Middle School Information

Hello Everyone,

Below is a post about the STEM Middle School in Dearborn. This is a special middle school for selected students. It focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. It helps get the students in advanced courses and to prepare them for the advanced high school. Please review the information below:

“Applications for the school Year 2016-2017 will be submitted online this year by clicking the link Stem Application 2016.17; Must be a Dearborn City Resident to Apply.  All applications must be submitted by March 18thSTEM Application 2016.17

Enrollment is limited and based on student interest and test scores. Currently, we will have 60 openings for 6th grade (current 5th graders) and no openings for 7th grade (current 6th graders), and 3 opening for 8th grade (current 7th graders).

8th grade is still in the planning stages and we will have more information sometime in semester 2.

Process: Apply before the deadline! Administration will look at your M-Step and NWEA scores. Depending on number of applicants, a selection will be asked to come to the Dearborn Heights Campus and take the Explore test.  Based on those scores students will be invited to attend the STEM school.

Testing is penciled in for the weeks between April 4 and 22nd.

This is a school of choice and transportation is the families responsibility.

Empty Bowls Community Project

Annual Empty Bowls Event

Helps Those In Need

 

The Dearborn Public Schools Art department is hosting its annual Empty Bowls meal on Monday, November 23, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Park Place Banquet Hall, 23400 Park Street, Dearborn, MI 48124.

 

For a minimum $5 donation, guests who attend this family-friendly dinner will receive a one-of-a-kind handmade bowl and enjoy a serving of tasty soup and bread. The bowls are made by students in kindergarten through high school who attend Dearborn Public Schools.

 

Donations will support Gleaners Food Bank and Blessings in a Backpack, local charities that help feed the hungry. Guests can take their bowls home as a reminder of all those who go hungry each day.

 

A variety of soups will be available, including vegetarian and gluten free, at this simple meal of soup and bread to fight hunger. A tin can raffle also will be held.

 

No reservations are required, but those who arrive early will see all of the unique bowls made and donated by students and teachers in the Dearborn Public Schools.

 

The annual Empty Bowls charity event is hosted by the Dearborn Public Schools Art Department and Park Place Banquets & Catering.

Rivals Unite To Support Scholarships And Promote Unity

On the field or in the classroom, Dearborn High, Edsel Ford, and Fordson (D.E.F.F.) are no strangers to fierce competition, but longtime rivals will stand together on Sunday, October 11, 2015 as Dearborn’s three public high schools host the third annual Unity Run.

This race is open to students, staff and family members of Dearborn Public Schools and community members interested in supporting the work of the high schools students. All funds raised through the Unity Run go to support scholarships for students at Dearborn, Edsel Ford and Fordson High School involved in anti-bullying, mediation, diversity and/or social justice.

The fun begins at 9:30 with a 1 mile walk open to all. Elementary students will hit the course at 10:00 a.m. for a 1 mile race followed by a 2 mile race for middle school students starting at 10:30 a.m. High school students and adults will be able to take part in a 5K run starting at 11:00 a.m. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place (male/female) in each event except the walk.

Student registration is $10 or $35 for a team of four. Adults are $25 for individuals or $80 for a team of four. Entry fee includes a t-shirt and numbered bib. For more information and/or to register for the DEFF Unity Run visit:

The Unity Run will take place at Ford Field Park in Dearborn, located at Brady Street and Monroe Street. The unpaved trail course will be a combination of slight hills and straight pathways through a mostly wooded area.
