Week of 10/7/19

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I personally am enjoying the change in weather. We have a pretty busy week ahead of us. Today we started a digital personal dictionary using the Frayer Model. We will be updating this in science, social studies, spelling and during reading groups.

This week:

Spelling: https://quizlet.com/_3vk7i7 -All spelling test scores can be found by logging into your student’s school email address and an email will be found there with their grade. It can also be found on the Parent Connect website.

Reading: Book groups and daily reading are continuing. As a group, we are focusing on creating mental images in our writing and while we read. We are also working on using text features in an informational text to answer/ask questions, locate specific information, and write summaries.

Writing- We are going to do a quick Halloween narrative this week and then we will start our first opinion piece of writing based on current events.

Social Studies- We are continuing on our study of the regions in the USA. We are creating these neat flap books which are bursting with information.

Science- We are focusing on understanding the transfer of energy. Thank you to everyone who completed the evaluation for the DTE energy activity. 4th graders across Metro Detroit complete the activity and I am grateful for the opportunity to get a grant for classroom supplies.

Math- We are finishing Module 1. The study guide will come home today and the test will be tomorrow. We will start module 2 tomorrow which is about the conversion of units, especially standard to metric units.

Have a great week.
