Hello everyone. This month is completely flying by! We are over a month into the school year and I am already seeing growth with the students. This week we have many things going on. On Tuesday, I have DTE Energy coming in to run experiments with the 4th graders during science. Each 4th grader will be coming home with a gift from DTE. On Friday. our building will kick off its PBIS practice with an assembly in the morning. It is a half day so remember the kids need to be picked up early. In the evening on the 13th, Nowlin PTA is hosting a really fun Halloween themed skating party at the Lincoln Park Skating center. Information will be coming home this week and the PTA will begin to presell tickets for $5 a person which covers entrance and rentals. The cost will be $7.00 at the door so I recommend grabbing them early from one of the PTA board members. Costumes are welcome. I hope to see everyone there.
In class this week:
Math: Both grades are working on mastering addition and subtraction of larger numbers. We are struggling with numbers over two digits so we will continue working. If you have Khan Academy access at home, I encourage your students to work through the tutorials on here for addition and subtraction, at home.
Science: 3rd-Forces and Motion with Mrs. Parana
4th- We are looking at energy and transfer of energy. We are going to be studying parallel circuits and creating them this week.
Social Studies-3rd-Parana
4th-We are finishing up our regions unit and we will be taking the Wayne County assessment on Thursday. Watch for the study guide to come home.
Writing-We are focusing on verbs and adverbs this week. We will be finding ways to make our writing more exciting through the use of verbs and learning different ways to hook the reader with our writing.
Daily 5-Book Clubs will continue with each group working on a different strategy. If your student is at home reading out loud to you, encourage them to read with inflection that is appropriate with the ending mark. We are moving past “Robot Reading” and trying to make our reading sound like we are talking.
