Week of 9-12-22

Friday of this week is a half day for students with dismissal at 12:05. The PTA sent home information on Friday for the Pizza Kit fundraiser they are doing. Please see the flyers for more information.

This week:

Math- We are working on rounding numbers to the thousands place value and higher. Our Module 1 mid-module assessment will be Thursday or Friday depending on how we do with the lessons before then.

Reading- This week we are focusing on asking and answering questions while reading informational text. Students also started their first full week of Unit 1 Benchmark. As part of this unit, we will be writing our first informational pieces of writing with a focus on animals. Reading groups are launching this week and you will see students coming home with strategy work if they can’t finish it during their reading time. If they finish their reading group work at school, they should still be reading for 15 minutes in the evening.

Science- This week launches our life cycle unit on the systems of the human body. First up is the nervous system. We also are beginning to track our aquaponic tank and the growth of the seeds we have planted in it.

Social Studies- We are working on creating a flap book on the different regions of the USA. Today we broke up the US map into the 5 main regions and we will be learning about each one.

Spelling- We are working on long and short /a/ sounds. Students can sort the words by their vowel sounds or blend. Their Quizlet is due Friday. https://quizlet.com/_a4bzq3?x=1jqt&i=xp8qf
