Week of 12/17/18

Happy Monday everyone,

We have a packed week ahead of us. We are designing blueprints and building graham cracker homes to scale using square centimeters. We will be focusing on area and perimeter while working within a given budget and size constraint. We will also be having a hot chocolate “paint and pour” activity towards the end of the week where we will have an art lesson focusing on geometry. Our holiday celebration will be Friday afternoon which is a movie and snacks. Thursday before school and directly after school is our parent meeting in the lunch room. The topic this week focuses on internet safety for your students and technology usage. I encourage you to attend a session if possible.

This week:

Math-We are beginning division and will start looking into long division towards the end of the week

Science- We are finishing our energy PBL and the students will be presenting their plans to the class. We will actually take one of the plans and build it on campus.

Social Studies- We are looking at how immigration into areas around the United States has impacted natural resources.

Writing-We are beginning our narrative unit. The students are going to be writing a narrative that will have a moral or positive message. This matches our study of theme in Daily 5.

Daily 5- We have regular book groups meeting this week. Students will continue to have book club work each night, unless they finish it during our reading rotations.

Santa Grams are coming home today and they cost 50 cents each. They will be delivered on Friday to the students. They must be turned into to me by Wednesday. We also are having a pajama day on Friday. It cost $1.00 for a student to wear their pajamas and this money goes to supporting the current PTA projects throughout the building. Cash only for both of these PTA events.
