Sewing Has Started
Students were able to start using the sewing machine today. We will practice for several days sewing on paper first, then scrap fabric and then on to sewing pajama pants!
Signed Syllabus
The first week of school all students were given a syllabus. The signed portion was the first gradebook assignment. Please make sure you have turned it in to receive credit. Any student that has not turned it in will not be permitted to use equipment.
Students have done an amazing job working in groups to create different foods in the kitchen. They are currently in small groups working to create a demonstration of a recipe in the kitchen.
Recipe Assignment
All students were able to use a Chrome Book to research a classroom friendly recipe yesterday. If it has not been submitted please complete at home by the end of this week.
After finding the recipe these are the steps to creating the assignment :
- Create a google doc
- Copy the recipe into the doc
- Read the recipe directions and locate cooking terms
- Make a list of cooking terms and definitions on the bottom of the doc
- Submit to me
What we are learning
All students have done a great job getting so know classroom expectations and routines in the classroom. We are currently learning about kitchen safety expectations as well as keeping foods safe to eat. Next week students will have a simple quiz covering the information we have discussed so far. All students have to understand all the safety skills before cooking in the foods lab!
The Kitchen
Students have had the opportunity to cook a few recipes in December and will be cooking a few more. Next week students will make homemade pizza and having a pizza party. The last week of the semester students will learn about advertisements and consumerism. Each student will create an advertisement for a product of choice.
Pajama Pants
The grade students in Consumer Skills are doing a great job making their pajama pants . One pair is complete and the rest are soon to be completed!
Pants are coming together!
Our class is working nicely following the steps of creating their own pajama pants. The are going to look wonderful when complete! Pictures to come.
Using the sewing machine
Students are applying their knowledge and new sewing skills! We are working on paper sewing to learn proper control of the machine. Once the paper sewing is complete all students will be able to thread the sewing machine independently and sew on scrap fabric. We will soon be starting projects:)
