Literacy:

  • First, we’ll read three ebooks by Kevin Henkes:
  • After reading the stories talk about what made them funny. Point out that some people may have thought the stories were quite humorous and others didn’t agree. Why do people think different things are funny?

Media Skills:

    • Go the Henry Ford OPAC 
    • Have students look for “Humor” by typing the word in the search box
    • How many results does the OPAC show you? (Hint: It’s a lot! And the answer is on the top left side of the window.)
    • Choose on the books from the list of hits and answer these questions:
      Is the book in the library or is it checked out?
      What information is in the “Call Number” section? (Hint: you have to click on “More Details”
      Is the book fiction or nonfiction? (HInt: In the Call Number section, if there are numbers, the book is nonfiction)
    • Students can go to free choice after answering the questions.

Log into the computer

  • Launch Mrs. Harrison’s blog
  • Click on the link to the Henry Ford OPAC
  • Using the search box, look for a <Geography> book
  • Can you answer one of these questions:
    1. What is the title of your book?
    2. Where can you find it? Is it fiction or nonfiction?
    3. Is the book in the library now or is it checked out by someone?
  • When you can answer the questions, call Mrs. Harrison over. If you can answer
    her questions, you can go to free choice at one of these sites on the blog, including a new one:
