Weekly Objectives-March 26-March 29

Reading objectives for the week of March 26:

Academic vocabulary: Quest is a long or arduous ( requiring strenuous effort; difficult and tiring) search for something. Opposing is the act of resisting or combating. Mythology is the rich collection of traditional tales from cultures all over the world. Many myths date back to ancient times. They are stories about how the world was created and why certain things happen.

RL 4.9 Compare and contrast the treatment of similar themes and topics (e.g. opposition of good and evil) and patterns of events (e.g. the quest) in stories, myths, and traditional literature from different cultures.

Writing:W.4.1 Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. a. Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer’s purpose. b. Provide reasons that are supported by facts and details. c. Link opinion and reasons using words and phrases (e.g. for instance, in order to, in addition). d. Provide a concluding statement or section related to the opinion presented.

Math: Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number. Knowledge that when multiplying a whole number by a fractions, you are finding that fractional part of the whole number. (e.g.: 1/4 x 24 is the same as 1/4 of 24)

Science: 4-LS1-1 Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.

Social studies: 4 – C2.0.2: Identify situations in which specific rights guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights are involved (e.g., freedom of religion, freedom of expression, freedom of press). 4 – C5.0.2: Describe the relationship between rights and responsibilities of citizenship. 4 – C5.0.3: Explain why rights have limits.

Join us tomorrow, Monday, March 26, 2018,  for literacy Night from 4:30-6:00 for an evening full of reading fun.  We will have many ways to celebrate the end of March is Reading Month.  Bingo for books, puppet making and a Scholastic Book Fair are just a few fun things we have planned.  It will be a great way to spend time with your family and friends!  I hope to see you all there.

Weekly Newsletter Week of March 19th

This week is the beginning of the fourth and final quarter of the year.  Report cards will be coming home this week.  I will be meeting with some of you on Thursday for conferences.  Here is the objectives for this week:Reading:  RL 4.7 – Make connections between the text of a story or drama and a visual or oral presentation of the text, identifying where each version reflects specific descriptions and directions in the text.RL 4.9 Compare and contrast the treatment of similar themes and topics (e.g. opposition of good and evil) and patterns of events (e.g. the quest) in stories, myths, and traditional literature from different cultures.

Math:  4.NF.6 Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or 100. For example, rewrite 0.62 as 62/100; describe a length as 0.62 meters; locate 0.62 on a number line diagram.
Ability to use decimal notation for fraction with 10 or 100 as the denominator.  

  • We will be taking our Math test for Unit 7 by the end of this week.

Science:   We are starting our life science unit.

Social studies: We are starting our unit 6- Rights and Responsibilities as Citizens.
