Announcements for the week of February 29, 2016

Monday, February 29, 2016

Hello everyone! As we approach the month of March I would like to thank everyone of you for being involved in your child’s education and caring so much about their academic success. Your children are a pleasure to have in my class and it is so rewarding to observe their growth academically and socially. I am hoping to assess your childĀ on their reading level by this Friday. I will notify you of your child’s reading level and provide with a grade-equivalent chart. Please make sure to look for this note in your child’s folder sometime next week.

I love March because it is READING MONTH!!! Even though students should be reading throughout the entire year, March is the month when students usually read the most minutes. In class we will be spending most of our daily 5 time reading to self, reading to the teacher, and reading to our friends. I hope you are able to come read a book to our class during this month. (A note was sent home today regarding mystery readers) Students are always excited to hear new stories being read aloud by people other than me! I actually just took my boys to the library this past weekend and had them choose some books to read during this month. I encourage you to take your child for a visit at one of the Dearborn Public libraries to check out some “good-fit” books. Here are some topics we will be working on this week.

Our spelling unit will focus on words with the “all” word family:

all, small, fall, call, tall, mall, put, with

Math:

We will begin our geometry unit this week. We will be reviewing some 2D shapes and then moving on to 3D shapes. Here are some great games your child can play to strengthen their geometry skills:

Shape Spin

Museum Mishaps

Snip Shape

Writing:

This week we will be studying poetry. Students will be introduced to different types of poetry beginning with concrete poems. (shape poems) We will be reading and writing poems for the next two weeks.
