Please distribute this handout to all chaperones. Please remind your group members that children must be in the direct supervision of an adult at all times in the Outdoor Adventure Center. This includes anyone under 18 years old and requires chaperones to be 18 years or older. Thank you for volunteering your time to chaperone a visit to the Michigan DNR Outdoor Adventure Center. We appreciate your time and want to help you have a great day at our building. . 1. No lunch at OAC. 2.All chaperones will need a wristband and a map – both will be provided during group orientation. IF your group has arrived by bus – you will need to join them for the brief orientation and to received your wristband and map. 3. Communal, coat racks are located need our main staircase. 4. Our student/chaperone ratio is 1 chaperone to every 6 students. Students must be under the DIRECT supervision of an adult at all times. Your group of students must stick together with you. This applies to all children under the age of 18. Our staff will help by re-directing wayward students and by holding them at the top of the tree – should they go up without you. 5. To keep our facility safe and sanitary, there is no food or drinks allowed in the exhibit area. Please be sure that all water bottles, coffee cups and food items are secured in the lunch carts and consumed only in the cafeteria by all children and adults. 6. Some groups elect to add a classroom experience to their visit. If your group has added a class please note the following: a. The classrooms are located on the second floor. Follow the signs down the second floor hallway. b. Each classroom will hold a set of students and 2 teachers. Chaperones should drop their students off and return to pick them up 5 minutes before the class is scheduled to end. While your students are in class please enjoy your free time. You can relax in the cafeteria, scope out the building to plan the rest of your visit and/or enjoy a walk outside on Detroit’s world class RiverWalk. Your wrist band will allow you to re-enter the building. 7. RESTROOMS a. On the First Floor, near the Elk entrance and in the Cafeteria b. Arrivals and Dismissals

Dear Howe Families,

In order to ensure the utmost safety for all of our students, our school community has decided to make the following changes to our arrival and dismissal procedures:

*Families with multiple children MUST go out the backdoor with the oldest student. This means Kindergarten and First graders with siblings will go in/out the back door for arrival and dismissal with their older sibling.

*If your child is going home with a different person for a particular day, please call or email the teacher and office to let them know and verify the person that will be picking up your child.

*Students MUST give their teacher the appropriate “goodbye” signal that was designated by their teacher before leaving.

Your children are our number one priority.  These policies are set in place to protect them and to keep everyone safe.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Best Regards,

Tammy Fournier

Howe Principal
