I will be sending home fact sheets tonight.  Due tomorrow!

On Monday, your child received a list of spelling words in his/her Communication Folder.  We are practicing those words as school by doing different activities each day.  On Friday, you child will have a test.  Please, please practice these words with your child before Friday morning.  Thank you.

We are currently working on a project for Open House and we need one small picture of your child.  Please send in tomorrow or Thursday.  Thanks!

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, homework will be to write in a journal.  I will be sending home today both a journal book and a calendar of topics for September and October.  You can choose any of the topics on the calendar or any topic of your choice.  Please see format below on  how to complete the journal.  If your child/children asks you to spell, tell them to stretch out the sounds of the word  and write what he/she hears.  We do this until they learn to spell it in later grades.  This is how we approach spelling of unknown words.  Thanks.

Journal Writing Prompts should include the following:
1.  Title (be creative) 2.  Write the Date    3.  Topic Sentence (hook your audience)   4.  Three – Four Sentences (be descriptive)   5.  Closing Sentences (let your audience know you are finished without writing The End)   6.  Use lots of describing words (use adjectives)  7. Picture.

OPEN HOUSE/CURRICULUM NIGHT IS THURSDAY!

Please join us for the Howe School Open House/Curriculum Night that is scheduled from 6:30-8:00 on Thursday, September 17. The purpose of this important event is to allow our families to meet their student’s teacher, learn about the curriculum that will be taught, and to hear about basic classroom procedures and policies. Each teacher will present two sessions to allow families with students in multiple classrooms to attend both sessions. Special subject teachers and ancillary support staff will be available throughout the evening. The schedule for the evening is as follows:

6:30-6:50 Welcome Message from Mr. Burch (Please assemble in the Gym)
7:00-7:20 Classroom Presentation 1 (in your student’s classroom)
7:25-7:45 Classroom Presentation 2 (in your student’s classroom)
7:45-8:00 General Meet and Greet

Your child began math today.  Your child has a note in  his/her Communication folder that explains how we are running math this year.  Thanks

All students will be receiving homework tonight.  Students are to work on the fact sheet and return it tomorrow.  The fact sheet is a math page with 50 problems on it.  Last week I tested and placed students at different levels.  Your child will have the same sheet on Wednesday for homework too.  On Friday, your child will  have a quiz on the same sheet.  If your child completes the page with accuracy and in a timely matter, he/she will pass that fact sheet and move on to a new fact sheet.  Students will have fact sheet homework every Monday and Wednesday.  Please email me if you have any questions.

Since I am not allowed to dismiss preschoolers, any child in my class that has a sibling in the preschool will dismiss out front.  Those in Ms. Schneider’s and Ms. Erin’s classes will come to my room at 330 and dismiss out back.  Sorry for confusion.  We’ll get it all worked out.  Thanks for your patience.
