Costumes-pictures did not post, see note sent on Tuesday

        May 18,2016

Dear Parents,

The pictures above are just some examples of clothing that the Aztecs wore.  The higher class the person was, the more elaborate the outfit.  The woman with the headdress with feathers would be considered higher class.  The picture next to it with simple clothing, would be lower class.  Bottom picture is of warriors.  For more examples please visit pinterest or google Aztec clothing and lots of pictures will come up.  Please choose costumes that fit your budget.  Students can choose which outfit to wear after your approval.  Some costumes fit play parts better than others.  For example, those with the play part of Defense will be talking about warriors and the best costume for them would be of a warrior.  No weapons please, just the outfit.  The play parts were distributed the other day.  Please check your child’s part for appropriate dress.

Thanks, Ms. Truxall

Cultural Night

May 17, 2016

Dear Parents,

Our annual International/Cultural Night is fast approaching.  This year it will be on Thursday, June 9.   Our play will be held in the gym here at Howe.  Miss Nellie,  Mrs. Polster, Mrs. Keebler and Ms. Truxall’s classes will be performing Plays, Needs of People, Gods and Goddesses and Interesting Facts about the Mayans, Incas and Aztecs.  Our class has begun studying the Aztecs with timelines, handwriting and coloring pictures.  Attached, are your child’s lines that need to be memorized for International/Cultural night.  Our class will be singing songs and making posters for International Night.   Our class is specifically doing the Needs of the Aztec People and the Spanish Invasion.  More information will be sent home about costumes soon.  All students are to memorize the passage and be able to read it slowly and clearly by June 9.  This is a very busy and exciting time for the children.  The Cultural Night will be memorable event!

If your son/daughter will not be participating, please inform me as soon as possible.

                                  Thanks,

                                  Ms. Truxall

Internet Warning! Aztecs

The students are very interested in learning more about  Aztecs. I am excited for them.   Many of them want to do independent researches on the subject.  Here at school, we have filters on our computers that will not allow students on to sites that have violence.  I am concerned about them doing a research at home.  Please, if your child is interested in researching at home, please look at the sites before allowing your child on to the site.  The Aztecs are known for sacrifices and I do not want them to see anything violent.  Thanks for your help.
