Celebrities of the Day!!! 

Today the students participated in an agree or disagree debate on the article “Is the Cafeteria Ruining Your Life?”. They stood on the side of the classroom that represented their opinion (either agree or disagree). The students together in their group discussed the evidence they pulled from the article to support their opinion and wrote the points down on a big sheet of paper. The students then read their points to debate the subject. They were told that they would be applying this skill to an argumentative essay they will be assigned this card marking.

Students were then introduced to the topic of theme. They were given a sheet that they will use to apply the topic tomorrow after watching a short film. Today they took notes on the back of this sheet for what theme is and where you would find it in a story. We also provided them with examples from “Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast” to make the topic more understandable.

Homework:

Students were sent home with their Reading Logs. They were given instructions to read as they should and have their parents sign each day that they read.
