We are looking forward to a great year of learning and growing together!
This week we have been finishing up procedures in class, and NWEA testing. Please ask your child to share with you his or her reading score in the planner, and what that correlates to as a grade level equivelent. We will be working throughout the year on ways to improve reading comprehension.
One standing, non negotiable homework assignment is that students must read for 20 MINUTES PER NIGHT, 5 DAYS PER WEEK. We will be going to the library every week and being strategic in picking out our good fit books. Students are to be choosing books that they are interested in, that are between 100-150 ABOVE THEIR LEXILE RANGE! The books at Bryant are almost all Lexiled, but if you have some books at home you would like to find out the lexile level of, you may go to the following website (lexile.com) to search books. Non-fiction books are a bit more challenging to find lexile levels for, and we ask that students bring non-fiction books to us for help with this.
Parents you can help your child by providing a quiet place to read 5 nights per week and asking one question about what he or she read that evening.
We are SO EXCITED to let you all know that EVERY STUDENT will be getting a mini library to take home this year! We reached out to our friends and family via facebook and were able to raise enough money to get ALL our students 9 books this year! We are so happy about this!! WOOHOO!!!
