I know that the first week of school can be hectic and chemistry can be a challenging new subject to study. In this first week, the student’s and I focused on a few goals that I hope will continue throughout the school year.
- Get to know one another.
- Establish some common norms for our class.
- Share in observing scientific phenomena (this week we focused on fire and candle flames).
The norms that the students discussed are the following:
- You are responsible for your own learning.
- Respect your right and other’s right to learn.
- Active participation and collaboration.
- Bring all materials to class.
- Utilize all class activities appropriately.
These were discussed at length by the students and will be re-addressed as needed during the year. The norms will also be included in the syllabus (to be distributed during the second week).
