Welcome to Mr. Goff’s chemistry class. This year will be challenging, interesting, frustrating, and knowledge expanding. To be successful, you are required to bring the following things to class everyday:
- At least two writing utensils (pens, pencils, markers, quills…) for taking notes and doing written work. These can be any color for class, but must be blue or black for summative assessments.
- One red pen for peer feedback (you will have a lot of opportunities to help your fellow students and get the same help back).
Starting on Tuesday, September 2nd, you will also need these two things:
- A 100 sheet (200 page) composition notebook. This must be a bound composition notebook; no spiral notebooks or perforated pages are allowed.
- A folder for organizing handouts and other papers.
Finally, since the easiest and most professional way to communicate with Mr. Goff is through email, you have a homework assignment to practice writing a good email.
- If you can, watch the movie The Princess Bride. Or at least watch this clip that includes a classic line from the movie.
- Read this description of how to write an email: https://customer.io/blog/princess-bride-welcome-emails/
- Write me an email from your school email account that includes all three parts.
- For the greeting, please consider who you are emailing (me, your teacher)
- For the “Who you are” please include which hour I teach you
- For the “What’s next” ask me a question, tell me something that you think is important for me to know about you, or recommend a good place to eat in Dearborn.
- ***DO NOT USE THE LINE FROM THE MOVIE IN YOUR EMAIL! Since it has the word “killed,” your email will automatically be forwarded to administration as if you were making a threat.
