First week in review.

I know that the first week of school can be hectic and chemistry can be a challenging new subject to study. In this first week, the student’s and I focused on a few goals that I hope will continue throughout the school year.

  1. Get to know one another.
  2. Establish some common norms for our class.
  3. Share in observing scientific phenomena (this week we focused on fire and candle flames).

The norms that the students discussed are the following:

  1. You are responsible for your own learning.
  2. Respect your right and other’s right to learn.
  3. Active participation and collaboration.
  4. Bring all materials to class.
  5. Utilize all class activities appropriately.

These were discussed at length by the students and will be re-addressed as needed during the year. The norms will also be included in the syllabus (to be distributed during the second week).
