Today’s Assignment 3/25/2020

Hi Everyone,

For today’s entry, submit what you did yesterday (3/24) in a journal entry. Make sure you’re doing the following:

  • Put the date at the top of the page; use Header 1 style
  • Type your entry
  • Make sure your name and ID is in the footer
  • You’re using the same entries from the previous days. You’re inserting a page break in between each one (you should NOT have separate file for each entry).
  • Check your spelling
  • Proofread your work
  • Make sure what is supposed to be capitalized, is; and what isn’t, isn’t (make sense?!)

Here’s the link for today’s question:

Take some time for yourself today. I know that everyone is stuck in the house and probably in each other’s faces. The weather is supposed to be a lot nicer than it has been. Go for a walk around the block and breathe in some fresh air and get some natural Vitamin D (did you know the sun was out too!?) With everyone staying at home, I’m sure the pollution from cars is down so you’ll be getting more fresh air than you have in a long time!!

Today’s Assignment

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all doing well and that you’re staying healthy and safe. Sorry for getting to this so late…I know you just can’t wait to get my posts and assignment every day! I spent SEVEN hours deep cleaning three bathrooms yesterday! Who does that!? So after all the scrubbing and cleaning, and doing a couple loads of laundry, I could barely pick up a pencil, let alone type to send an assignment!

I hope you’re getting the hang of these journal entries by now. Insert page break, add the date, type your entry. Change the style of the date to Heading 1, share it with me.

I enjoy reading about your days and what your thoughts are. I make comments for you to read them. You can choose to respond if you want, or say “This lady is crazy and I’m not getting online more than I have to!” Whatever works.

For today’s email, you should be sending me the entry from yesterday.

Don’t forget to answer today’s question:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfuPdilF_DF82Bd1u3gPPwtlzno1EzSSOIA9iHdDsoNuY8xAQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

Let me know if you have any questions. I can always attempt a video chat (not sure what time, but I’m sure we can make something work).

Well, back to cleaning I go. Three more rooms in the house and then I’m done and can start doing other work I need to do!! (You know all of those pictures we take and never do anything with them…I need to organize them!)

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

What’s due today?

Hi everyone,

Hope you and your families are staying indoors, and are healthy and safe, practicing your “social distancing.”

There are still a lot of unknowns and not sures. I wish we had more concrete answers for you.

In the meantime, we are going to continue with business as usual. I’m still going to provide you with assignments for your journal entries each day with an attendance question. I hope that you still will do them, and take the assignment seriously, get your thoughts out, but you’re still writing, using the computer, and communicating.

I hope that you’re also using this time to spend time together with your family, have some good conversations, learn some new things. I’m not going to lie, I’m enjoying spending time with my girls and we’re having some great conversations with a lot of laughs. They are learning how to cook by following a recipe, helping me spring clean, and they’ve been doing a lot of puzzles and reading.

I am keeping track of all the entries that you submit. I will get them in the gradebook so that you can see your progress.

When it comes to the entries, as you add your new entry for each day, you need to share it with me. Once I read and comment on them, I delete the emails where you shared the link, so you need to send me a new email each day with the link.

Here’s the link to the daily question.

My daughter’s teacher posted this quote on her blog today and I thought it’s something to share:

A wish for the week ahead:

May we all remember that we must keep each other safe, not just ourselves. May we give each other patience and compassion, and may we find new ways to connect. May we be sensible and sensitive, for those things are not mutually exclusive. May we stay kind, may we stay kind, may we stay kind. Here’s a coffee raised to all of us. –Nanea Hoffman, Sweatpants and Coffee LLC 2020.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Message about online learning…

I know a lot of you have questions about the Michigan Department of Education’s (MDE) announcement today regarding whether or not the online learning you’re doing will count.

Here is what our message is to Fordson students:

This afternoon, Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her “dismay” about the Michigan Department of Education’s statement, releasing her own statement assuring educators and parents that this time could possibly count. The MDE released its original statement because in order for our time to count, the Michigan legislature must change the law; the MDE has no power here. So what does that mean for us? *It is very possible—even likely—that our time online will count. So keep working.* Our state lawmakers do not want to anger parents and educators across the state. So let’s keep our momentum going.

It is the expectation of your administration and teachers that you participate in online learning. The work being assigned to you is to ensure that you do not fall behind academically. Our goal remains 1200+ SRI and proficiency in all subjects. All careers require a minimum SRI of 1200 and proficiency in math.

We are not sure when we will return, but we will continue to provide you with learning opportunities. As a family it is important for us to continue to grow and thrive academically. –Thank you, Your School Administration and Teachers.

Today’s Assignment 3-20-2020

PART 1

Going on day 3 of these journal entries, it looks like you’re starting to get the hang of writing. Keep it up. Just remember, for the 3-20-2020 assignment, you’re submitting the 3-19-2020 journal entry. The 3-19-2020 assignment submission was for 3-18-2020 journal entry. You’re giving me information on the day before. I’m just saying that you don’t have to stay up late to try to get it in the same night.

Here’s what I need you to do:

  • Sign in to your school email account. Go to www.gmail.com; enter your email address (your ID@dearbornschools.org). Click next, and then enter your school password.
  • In the upper right hand corner, you should see a bunch of dots, or something to access your Google Drive. Click on it and select your file.
  • Use ONE Google doc. Change the file name to your Last Name First Name ID Journal Entries. DO NOT start a new document for each day. Use the same document with additional pages.
  • Each day should have it’s own heading; you should make the date using Heading 1 Style (check the first blog post on how to do it)
  • Write your entry; use details, descriptions, but don’t forget to make sure you capitalize what should be capitalized, and use correct punctuation. Don’t just use bulleted or numbered lists. Use them in your writing. Write paragraphs, but if something requires a list, then add them in. If not, then don’t.
  • Run spell check.
  • Proofread your work.
  • Insert a footer with your name, first and last, and ID.
  • When you finish the entry, click on Insert, Page Break. That way you are ready to start the next day’s entry.
  • Click on Share in the upper right hand corner. When it asks you to share with whom, enter my email address (ferrisy@dearbornschools.org). Then it will share with me.

I am reading them. I appreciate you sharing them with me. I appreciate you giving me insight about your life outside of school. Be honest, be open, and tell me whatever you feel comfortable with. Some of your entries are making me laugh. Some of your entries make me ask questions, and I do. I make comments. The comments are for you. You do not need to change your entries to resubmit. Just think about what I’m asking so that when you do the next entry, you’ll know what to correct. If I’m asking questions, and you want to respond, you can. As I access your files, I can go back and look at the entries if they are in the same document.

PART 2

Answer the daily question. This is your attendance for the day. Click on the link and enter your response. Simple as that!

Assignment for 19-3-2020

  1. Answer the attendance question right in the link from the Google form. I think this will be easier than sending the email. This is different from the survey site because it can record your email address so I’ll know who submitted it.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd8c2RsujJUDol1twIA9-ANbCM_S0RJrqZ3Vu9p_XyjS5gLGw/viewform?usp=sf_link

2. Submit your journal entry through Google docs. Make sure that you

  • Save the file as Last Name First name ID Journal Entries
  • Insert a Page Break and then add the next day’s date and entry. You can just continue where you left off without having to start a new document.
  • For the footer, you only need your name and ID number.
  • You must be logged into your Dearborn Schools account
  • Share the file with me on Google docs. My email address is ferrisy@dearbornschools.org
  • I will make comments on them and you will be able to see.
  • Feel free to write about anything…your feelings for the day, everything you did, a combination of both. Just write, and in detail. I don’t want to have to come up with different assignments that will drive you and me crazy!
