Welcome Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I want to welcome your child to a new prosperous academic year. I have been teaching Third grade at Henry Ford for fifteenth years.  It is rewarding to observe the students improve academically as the year goes by.  I hope your child had an enjoyable summer and is well rested.

My goal is to help your child learn all content areas as the year progresses.  Your cooperation as parents is essential to ensure the success of your child by making sure homework and assignments are done in a timely manner.

I would appreciate providing these supplies to your child on the first week of school:

  • 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
  • 2 boxes of facial tissues
  • 1 bottle of hand soap
  • 1 box of Clorox/Lysol wipes
  • 5 boxes of pencils
  • 5 wide rule spiral notebooks ( green, red, black, blue, and yellow)
  • 4 folders ( green, blue, yellow, red)
  • 1 pencil box or pouch
  • 1 box of colored pencils
  • 1 ( 24 pack ) of crayons
  • 1 glue stick
  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 small sharpener with a cover
  • Headphones ( not wireless)
  • Sticky Notes Pack

Classroom Procedures and Policies

Behavior Management System

Students begin their day on green indicating that they are ready to start class.  If a child chooses to break the rules, he/she will clip down to yellow (warning).  If the behavior continues, the child will clip down to orange (reflect), where he/she will have to fill out a think sheet about the choices that resulted in the situation and how to correct it.  If the pattern continues, the child status will be on red and will be sent to the office.  An office staff/administrator will call home and give a consequence.  A child will always have a chance to correct his behavior and clip up. A student that ends his/her day on green for 4 out of the 5 school days per week will get to participate in a monthly celebration.

Planner

Your child will be given a planner to log all school homework and upcoming tests and projects.  This is to help keep you informed about your child’s assignments and help stay organized.  Please do not sign your child’s planner unless all homework and assignments are completed.

Tests

Tests will be sent home for you to review. Please sign the test and return it with your child the following day.  Your child will be given several small assessments throughout each card marking for the various standards on the report card.

Homework

Your child will be given homework on a daily basis.  We work very hard in school to help our students become responsible.  Please contact me if your child does not complete the homework promptly.

Friday Folders

As a teacher, I collect all corrected work, tests, and quizzes and place them in their Friday Folders.  There is a sheet that requires your signature as well a space for you to write any comments.  Please look through your child’s work and sign the sheet to verify that you have seen his/her work.  Only the sheet that has your signature needs to be returned to class.  This Friday Folder should be sent back on Monday morning with your child.

Contacting me

Always feel free to contact me through my email at fawazs1@dearbornschools.org.  You can also call the school office at 313-827-4700 to discuss any matter of your concern.

Again, I welcome you and your child to this year 3rd grade. I hope we will have a successful and fruitful year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fawaz
