Hello parents and students and welcome back to a new school year in first grade! This is such a rewarding year and I am so excited that I get to share it with all of you.
We will be excelling our skills in all subjects including math, science, social studies, writing, and reading. First grade is such a special year because your children will grow so much! We have amazing students, teachers, and principal. This will be an exciting year of learning. In order to ensure that we have an awesome year, we need to make sure that we are prepared. I will blog and post on ClassDojo DAILY to keep you posted on our learning (which will sometimes include photos) and any announcements/reminders. PLEASE SIGN UP FOR IT. The blog and ClassDojo is the only newsletter for the classroom and it is mandatory for EVERY parent to sign up.
Drop Off/Pick Up 8:35 a.m.: First Bell – Reminder for students to line up to prepare for pledges. We are line #3! 8:40 a.m.: Instructional Begins– Students will be in classroom beginning the day. Your child should be in our class line (line number 3) by 8:30. I will be at our line at 8:30 each day. The bell rings at 8:35 where we will begin our day by walking our students into the building and into our classroom. The principal has asked that parents drop off the students outside and do NOT come in to the classroom. We are teaching our students to be independent 🙂 Then we will say the Pledge of Allegiance and Geer Park Pledge inside of the classroom. Class officially starts at 8:40. Please help your child come to school on time; every minute counts! At the end of the day, I will walk the class out to the front of the school and stand by our cone. We are the green cone! PLEASE BE ON TIME TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD AT THE END OF THE DAY. Class is dismissed at 3:35! Any child not picked up by 3:45 will be escorted to the office and you will have to pick them up from there as I have other obligations directly following the school day.
Absences and Tardiness Please remember that the children should be lined up outside at 8:30 to prepare for the Pledge of Allegiance and Geer Park Pledge that starts at 8:35a.m. The instructional bell will ring at 8:40 where will be in our classroom starting our day. Our school day begins promptly at 8:40 a.m. It is important for your child to be on time, we get started right away. Please help your child be on time by preparing for school the night before: make your child’s lunch, prep snack, lay their school clothes out, and ensure that they go bed nice and early so they are well rested. If your child is sick, please report the absence to the office by calling 827-2300.

Snacks: We have snack in the afternoon. I will be sending home a snack schedule on Tuesday that will start NEXT WEEK! Each child will have a day where they are responsible for bringing in snack for the class. For this week, please pack your child a healthy snack each day. We work hard during the day and they get awfully hungry during the end of the day! To promote healthy eating habits and to avoid food allergies, please send in ONLY fruit, vegetables, or dairy (cheese or yogurt). NO juice boxes, we have a drinking fountain in the room.
Water Bottles: Each child is allowed to bring a water bottle to school. It MUST be able to close. We have two mandatory recesses during our school day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. It will be hot this week! So please send your student with a water bottle that closes to prevent any messes.
Lunch: Our lunch is from 11:25 a.m. – 12:03 p.m. The students eat for about 15 – 20 minutes of that time and the rest of the time is a lunch time recess. Please put your child’s name on the outside of the lunch box.
Thank you so much and I can’t wait to meet all of you very soon!
