Week Of September Sept. 2, 2019

This week we spent lots of time getting to know the routine. Following a schedule provides a sense of security because students will know what to expect. The young adults have done a great job adapting to our new routine of choosing their own lunch from the many options now served in the cafeteria. This week we spent some time outside, did a homemade strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry jam taste test (strawberry was the favorite!) and we began our job of popping and bagging popcorn for the 3rd grade montessori class for their weekly reward.

Thank you for checking your young adults back pack each day. I have received most of the CBI and Photo permission slips. We will begin CBI next week and we need to have permission so your young adult can participate in the weekly outing. I have had a few parents sign up for remind and I encourage you to do so. It works like a text to your phone and I plan on using it throughout the year for reminders and to set up meetings.

Unfortunately, we have had several students out this week due to illness. We have observed many runny noses and coughing. This is a friendly reminder to keep your young adult home if they are not feeling well so the germs do not spread. We have students in our class with weak immune systems and we want everyone to be able to attend school without fear or risk of getting sick.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

  • 9/20 1/2 day, 11:05 dismissal
  • 9/25 Late Start, 1 hour delay
  • 10/11 1/2 Day, 11:05 dismissal
  • 10/16 Late Start, 1 hour delay

Week Of August 26, 2019

Welcome Back To School!

Though I am sad that summer is ending, I love the beginning of a new school year! I have missed all of my students and their families and I look forward to seeing everyone when school starts tomorrow. This year I plan to use my blog and the Remind app to communicate with our SCI Young Adult families. I have attached a link at the top of the page to make it easy for you to sign up for the remind app and there is a place for you to sign up on the left side of the post to receive a notification each time I post something new. If you need help, I will be happy to show you when we have open house on September 4th from 6-7:30pm. Please check your young adults bag daily for a communication sheet and any other notices from school. As always, if you need to get a hold of me, our classroom phone number is 313-827-2919. You can e-mail me at erismad@dearbornschools.org as well.

This week we will be practicing new routines, enjoying the exciting new breakfast and lunch options, exploring a ULS unit on communication, participating in the districts DAY 1 Pledge, and attending Art and PE specials (Music is on Mon. & Fri.). Once we have the first week under our belt I will update the daily schedule.

Week of January 16, 2017

Our class is very happy to host a guest speaker tomorrow afternoon.  Ms. Jen Wendell of the Fire Department will be visiting us to talk about what it is like to be a firefighter.  This is going to be the first of many visits from community members that Ms. Laurie (the sub for Ms. Susie) has lined up for our secondary SCI classes.

This week we also have a Late Start on Wednesday.

Welcome Back

Dear Parents and Families,

This has been quit an exciting return to school this week.  On Monday we welcomed both a new student, Latrell, and a new paraprofessional, Ms. Walaa to our classroom.  We are so happy to have them both!  There are a few notes comming home this week.  In addition to the PTA sponsered box top collection due Feb. 17, there is also a Family Movie night scheduled for next Friday, January20th, and Bright Smiles mobile dentistry will be here on January 27th.  I am also sending home information regarding Remind, an app that allows communication between parents and myself  though our smartphones or tablets.  This will be posted to the blog as well.  Have a great rest of the week. ~Mrs. Dorothea
