Today we read sections 8 and 9 and completed the interactive notes. Students also used the archaeologist notes to connect artifacts to the reading. We then reviewed our academic vocabulary for this chapter by playing BINGO. Our test for chapter 5 will be this Thursday. Students will receive a study guide tomorrow.

Today we read sections 3 and 4 and completed the interactive notes as well. I presented a powerpoint on what we have covered so far. Students had to know what the sumerians invented that helped create a stable food supply and completed a flowchart. Students also analyzed the artifacts that show evidence of social structure in sumer. Hours 2 and 3 began section 5 at the end of class. Here are the notes if you were absent. ch-5-reading-notes

Today we discussed what it means to be civilized and why historians classify ancient sumer as a civilization? We completed the preview activity in our interactive notes and read section 1. We also shared out about 3 personal artifacts found in our bedroom that a future archaeologist would conclude about us. Please check parent/student connect for any missing assignments. The 2nd marking period ends next Friday, November 21, 2014. I will be posting the results of the chapter 4 test tomorrow.
TEST TOMORROW
Our test on chapter 4 is tomorrow. We went over the study guide today and did a review game. We also presented our Sumerian city Ads. If you did not have your Ad today please turn it in tomorrow. No late assignments will be accepted after the test.

Today we read section 7 and completed the notes which was a problem/solution flowchart. We also had to do a process assignment where we came up with an ad for a Sumerian village. The directions for the ad are on the bottom of section 7 if you were absent today. We also worked on our study guide for chapter 4. We will go over the study guide tomorrow in class. The test is this Friday, November 7.

Today I sent home the current progress report for marking period 2, if you did not attend conferences. Please remember to show it to your parents, have it signed and returned by tomorrow. In class, we worked on section 5 and completed the notes. We continued looking at the problems the sumerians faced and worked out the solutions in groups. Take a look at some of the pictures.

Today in class we went over section 3 in the textbook. We completed the section 3 notes in class as well. Students enjoyed acting out a problem/solution activity where they had to go back in time and figure out how they were going to feed their starving family. They had to consider many of the events we had learned from chapter 1 and 3 and play it out in chapter 4. I was happy with their solutions and why they chose it. Today in class we read sections 1 and 2 and completed sections 2 notes. The chapter 4 illustrated dictionary was passed out at the end of class and will need to be completed for homework. I enjoyed meeting many of the parents at conferences today. I hope to see the rest tomorrow from 3:30 to 6:30 in room 43. Test tomorrow
Today we used our flow charts to help us compare and contrast the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages in our process writing. Students were asked to write 3 paragraphs of how they lived, their form of shelter, and jobs/trade. If they didn’t finish in class it was for homework. Tomorrow is the test on chapter 3. Please study your illustrated dictionary and your study guide. You can only use your interactive notebook notes for this chapter.

Today we went over the study guide for chapter 3. The test will be this Thursday. We reviewed the 5 ways of life the Neolithic and Paleolithic Ages lived.
