Today students presented their silk road billboards to the class. Students did a nice job. We also started Ancient Greece. Students had to read “setting the stage” pages 268-269. The map with questions relating to it is for homework. It is due on MONDAY. On Monday we will begin ch. 26 The Rise of Democracy. I will be posting ch. 24 assessment and many other grades today. Please check parent/student connect.

Today we read section 24.4 and completed section 4 notes. We discussed 3 silk road fables that were passed down through cultural diffusion. Then, students completed a matching game about the moral of the story for each fable. Looking Ahead…When we come back we will finish up with the last section 24.5. We will review and have the ch.24 assessment on Wednesday, April 15. We will then move on to Greece.

We have been working on chapter 24 The Silk Road. Student notes should be completed up to section 3. For those students who will be leaving early on spring break, we will cover section 4 tomorrow and read 3 silk road fable stories. Test grades for ch. 22 are in student/parent connect. Overall students did very well! Thank you for your continued support at home. The Bryant students are wonderful.

Today we took the assessment for ch. 22 The First Emperor of China.
Students worked on the illustrated dictionary for ch. 24 The Silk Road. Students need to do words bolded in blue and black. There are 9 words. This is due on Monday. Please check parent/student connect for missing assignment.

Today we read pages 240-243 “Reading Further, Considering Great Monuments”. Students completed page 7 in their notes. Homework: Writing a Diary Entry visit to the Great Wall of China. Describe in detail what you see there. Include facts, local people, and your own impressions from our readings. Add sketches or visuals to help you.

CHAPTER 22 ASSESSMENT WILL BE ON FRIDAY. Study guides were handed out today.
Be familiar with the map on page 238. Know all words bolded in blue including REVOLT, CONSTRUCT, AND CONFLICT.

Today in class we worked on the processing assignment for ch.22. Students took this assignment home for homework. If you believe Qin was effective, design a commemorative plaque. If you believe Qin was ineffective, design a “wanted” poster. Your plaque or poster must contain the following.
. a title
. a picture of the emperor
. atleast 3 actions of the emperor that justify this plaque or poster with illustrations for each action.

Please make it colorful. This is due tomorrow beginning of class.

Chapter 22 assessment will be on Friday!

March 23, 2015

Today we finished up section 22.6 “Emperor Qin’s death”. Students “talked to the text” and completed sections 5 and 6 notes. Students also acted out section 22.5 “Ending Opposition”. The characters were; the emperor, the emperor’s advisor, soldier, and Confucian scholar.
Tomorrow we will begin the processing assignment. Please bring your colored pencils to class.This includes 2nd and 3rd hours with Ms. Mantay as well. The chapter 22 assessment will be on Friday.

Today we “talked to the text” and read section 22.5 p.237 on Ending the Opposition. Students worked in small groups and summarized each section and then rated the Emperor Qin whether he was effective or ineffective. Next, some students presented the 4 sections we covered in this chapter while other students were chosen to present the vocabulary words in this chapter using the frayer model. We will work on the notes on Monday. Students who were absent will need to read section 22.5 and “talk to the text”.

Today in class we read section 22.4 “Protecting the Northern Border” and “talked to the text”. Students also acted out the role of characters we read in the section. We completed section 4 notes.

Today we began chapter 22 “The First Emperor of China”. We discussed the qualities of being a good leader and gave examples of great leaders in today and history. We discussed if the Emperor of Qin was an effective leader. We will continue with this tomorrow.
