Welcome!

Welcome to my 7th Grade English Language Arts blog! This semester I will be teaching the students in Mrs. Wiacek’s 3rd hour. Here is a copy of the parent letter I sent home on Monday, 1/29.

Families of Stout Middle School,

Hello! My name is Rachel Huhta and I will be teaching Language Arts for Mrs. Wiacek’s 3rd hour this semester. Since your students have become familiar with Mrs. Wiacek’s classroom structure and curriculum over the last few months, I will be working hard in collaboration with Mrs. Wiacek to make sure their transition is as smooth as possible by keeping my lesson planning uniform with Mrs. Wiacek’s. During my other hours, I teach reading intervention as an elective called Language Arts Lab. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be working in Stout Middle School and have already had the pleasure of getting to know the school and many of the students last semester. I attended Eastern Michigan University and graduated last April following my time student teaching English Language Arts at Belleville High School.

Just a little information about myself: I am from Plymouth and now live in Ann Arbor, making a short commute to Stout Middle School. At Eastern Michigan University I received a Bachelor’s degree in Language, Literature and Writing with a minor in Communication, Media and Theatre Arts in Secondary Education. I worked both full and part time throughout my college experience, which greatly strengthened my time management and organizational skills. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors hiking, kayaking and canoeing with friends and family. Last summer my cousin and I spent a week hiking Isle Royale and this past July I hiked Pictured Rocks in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. For the past three years I have also been volunteering for a few hours a week at an elementary-middle school in Detroit with a program called “Reading Buddies”, tutoring students in need of extra assistance with reading and writing. This experience has truly driven my passion for working with children and adolescents and has shown me the importance of individualized care for students.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and I am looking forward to learning and growing with your students over the course of the semester!

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns over the course of the semester at: huhtar@dearbornschools.org
