Parent Letter 2018

In case this didn’t make it home, here is the parent letter that was handed out in class yesterday:

Families of Stout Middle School,

Hello! My name is Rachel Huhta and I will  be teaching your child English Language Arts this year at Stout. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be working in Stout Middle School and have already had the pleasure of getting to know the school and many of the students last year. I attended Eastern Michigan University and graduated in April 2016 following my time student teaching English Language Arts at Belleville High School.

Just a little information about myself: I am from Plymouth and now live in Ann Arbor, making a short commute to Stout Middle School. At Eastern Michigan University I received a Bachelor’s degree in Language, Literature and Writing with a minor in Communication, Media and Theatre Arts in Secondary Education. I worked both full and part time throughout my college experience, which greatly strengthened my time management and organizational skills. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors hiking, kayaking and canoeing with friends and family. Two summers ago my cousin and I spent a week hiking Isle Royale and this past July I hiked the island of North Manitou off the shores of Lake Michigan. For the past three years I have also volunteered for a few hours a week at an elementary-middle school in Detroit with a program called “Reading Buddies”, tutoring students in need of extra assistance with reading and writing. This experience has truly driven my passion for working with children and adolescents and has shown me the importance of individualized care for students.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and I am looking forward to learning and growing with your students over the course of the year!

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns over the course of the year at: huhtar@dearbornschools.org

Sincerely,

Rachel Huhta
