Use a computational model to figure out how a combination of limited resources (space), antibiotics, and reproduction affects the size of a population and the distribution of trait variations in a bacterial population in a simulated infection. Develop a model to provide a mechanistic account for how environmental changes (to the amount of antibiotics in the system) cause a population of bacteria to become more resistant to an antibiotic over time than they were initially (effect) by shifting the distribution of trait variations in a bacterial population to become dominated by individuals that have trait variations that grant them a competitive advantage for survival
WHAT WE FIGURE OUT – how to develop a model of natural selection to explain certain variations of bacteria using computer modeling, some bacteria had a competitive advantage over others due to pore size, pooling data is needed for results
