Chromebook Troubleshooting

If you have checked out a school Chromebook and are having issues connecting try the steps listed below.

  1. Turn off the Chromebook (holding the power button is okay)
  2. Turn the Chromebook back on.
  3. Connect to your home WiFi.
  4. You should see a screen that says “Sign in to your Chromebook”. Leave the Chromebook on this screen for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Restart the Chromebook again.

Access to Clever from Home

How to Log in to Clever from Home

  1.  Go to https://dearbornschools.org/resources/students.
  1. Scroll down to Useful Links, and click on Clever.
  1. Click “Log in with Google.”
  2. Here is a VERY IMPORTANT piece of information:  students need to type in their username (8 digit number) with @dearbornschools.org after it.  For example, if your student number is 12345678, then you log into Clever as 12345678@dearbornschools.org.  If you do not use the @dearbornschools.org, you will not be able to log in.  Next, type in your password, which is the same as the one you use at school.

Breakfast and Lunch Pickup

Families in need can stop in and pick up a bag with both breakfast and lunch for each child in the family.  Pickups will run daily (weekdays) from 10 a.m. to noon starting March 17 at Fordson, Edsel Ford and Dearborn High schools, McCollough-Unis, Salina Intermediate, and Woodworth Middle School and continuing through April 3rd.

Chromebook Checkout

Please fill out this form if you would like to reserve a Chromebook on loan for my child. To take the DuVall Chromebook survey, please click here. Please complete this survey by 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 19th as this will provide our staff with enough time to prepare the necessary number of Chromebooks based on the anticipated number of requests. The survey above must be filled out in order to make a reservation for a Chromebook on loan – we will not be able to distribute additional on-the spot requests as it takes time to prepare each of the Chromebooks.

There is a limit of one Chromebook per family. Chromebooks must be returned to the school on the first day Dearborn Public Schools reopen after this mandatory shutdown. Students must follow Dearborn Public Schools Acceptable Use policy and guidelines. The family borrowing the Chromebook agrees to understand that they are responsible for any damage to the Chromebook. The Chromebooks on loan are for current DuVall students only.

Internet Access:
Chromebooks require internet access and have Wi-Fi built-in. Dearborn Public Schools cannot provide internet home access. Comcast has an Internet Essentials package for families that qualify. This program is currently free for 60 days. After the 60 days, Internet Essentials will cost $9.95 per month. (You can apply online: https://apply.internetessentials.com/) Dearborn Public Schools does NOT have an affiliation with Comcast. Individual families are responsible for any costs of the service.

Qualifications for Internet Essentials:
You are eligible for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, and others
You do not have an outstanding debt to Comcast that is less than a year old.
You live in an area where Comcast is available but have not subscribed to it within the last 90 days.

Xfinity Wi-Fi Free
Xfinity WiFi Free For Everyone: Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.

Wednesday Update

From Range Rick Magazines: With schools, offices, and other public spaces closing across the country, we want to help you stay entertained and engaged in the natural world. So we are making our website free to all visitors through the end of June. We have also made all the digital editions of our magazines free to the public for the next few months.

And here’s a tip for parents: We hope you’ll take advantage of the activity ideas and student pages in our free monthly Ranger Rick Educator’s Guides and Ranger Rick Jr. Parent Reading Guideshttps://rangerrick.org/stuck-indoors/?fbclid=IwAR12C3XwFIM0MQmcNsxXhmK2nJrIKqbsWcZMe81cIJiDj4lgfSlURixgJ20

Thoughts about Assigned work: We tried to put the work in a framework the kids are familiar with and that’s the weekly Daily 5 menu. They have been using this since October. Each child can do as much or as little per day this week and just try to get it all done. There is no punishment if it doesn’t happen. We just wanted to give the kids/parents resources and specific grade level assignments that we thought the kids could handle. Feel free to email as much as you need. I’m looking at what’s been turned in so far and some of the students are forgetting to “submit” the work that they have done on Readworks. Also, chrome books will be available to families that don’t have a computer. If you need one, check DuVall’s blog daily, as it will be posted there when they are available for checkout. Try not to stress!

FlipGrid

I created a FlipGrid, a place where we can send messages to each other using mini-videos. Students can access this through Google Classroom Daily 5.

March 17th

Please have your child continue to check the Remote Learning page on Google Classroom Daily 5. I have added to it and am checking work. I am also responding to any journals shared with me. Please encourage your child do some of this online learning everyday.

I have also added 2 new Quizizz to Google Classroom Daily 5. This is a great way for the students to interact with their classmates.

Please let me know if I can help in any way. I check me email throughout the day.

5th Grade Remote Learning Week 1: March 16th

Please use the link below or access the link on Google Classroom Daily 5 each week that we aren’t in school. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y72E2jXobjYs5yvzd_XXO8Q2hh2yA5sahrzBbEgMP-w/edit?usp=sharing

To access Google Classroom, your child should visit google classroom by googling it. They can then login with their student ID followed by @dearbornschools.org. (For example, if your child student ID is 2008456723, the username would be 2008456723@dearbornschools.org. Each student knows their password.

Mr. Attee has also posted other pertinent information on DuVall’s blog, which can be accessed using the following link. https://duvall.dearbornschools.org/

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me. I’ll be checking my email daily and will respond a.s.a.p. We will put a new link up next Monday so the kids will have a new week’s worth of work to do. All work should be accomplished each week. If your child is giving you a hard time, blame US if you need to. We are hoping this will keep your child somewhat busy and not allow their brains to go to mush. 🙂

Michigan Weather, Oh My!

For the next several weeks, the weather will change throughout the day. This makes it difficult to dress appropriately. I explained to the students today that it is best to bring a coat, even a vest or light-weight one, to school EVERYDAY.

I will not allow anyone without a coat to go outside when it is below 40 degrees. I am not a stickler about coats usually, but below 40 is cold. It is NOT my policy to make students wear coats if they bring them to school. I would prefer them to bring the coats and if the temperature rises throughout the day, they will not be required to wear them.

As a parent of a 10 and 11 year old boys, I understand that they get hot when running around. So, if its below 40, a coat (even a light-weight) is required and long sleeves are required if under 50. Other than that, 5th graders are old enough to gauge their personal temperature. Thank you in advance for helping your child bring a coat to school daily until the weather breaks.
