April 20th

Hello! Each day students are getting their assignments and are expected to complete them and turn them in that day. We are giving between 1-2 hours of work per day as instructed by Dearborn Public Schools. Some assignments are given with 2 days to complete. Please help your child be successful by keeping them on a schedule as close to what they normally have as possible and have a space with supplies for him/her to work each day. If your child is saying they are done with everything, take a moment (if possible) and just say, “Ok, show me!”

Here is a link to today’s menu just so you can see: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SLFoQs5TEhDksb-C3i6AD86_5B0letbtWFR9-nZ6RJA/edit?usp=sharing

Additionally, the students and I will meet via Google Hangout M, T, and Th at 11:00 weekly and with Ms. Courtright for Math on T and Th at 12:00.

Also, a new grading system will be implemented for the 4th marking period in order to provide feedback for the learning that is taking place.  In the updated grading system, the following marks will be used:

Meeting (M):  A student has high participation levels in remote learning, is routinely submitting assignments and completing learning tasks, and is regularly attending check in/ remote learning sessions.

Progressing (P):  A student is submitting most of his or her assignments and attending some of the check ins.

Limited Participation (LP):  A student is rarely or not submitting work, rarely or not attending check-in/ remote learning sessions, or has experienced hardship during the time of instruction.  Support to assist students who are showing limited participation in remote learning will be offered.

If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email me. I know many of you are working from home and this makes it very difficult and/or tricky. I’m trying to make it as easy as possible for everyone and will do whatever I can to help. Thanks for all of your support and stay safe!

A Fun Activity and an Update

Good Morning! I hope that this finds everyone well. I have attached a page that has some simple fun recipes for play-dough like materials. Please check it out.

I also want to remind the students that we have a Google Hangout meeting today at 11:00, this is for BOTH Mrs. Ranka’s and Mrs. Courtright’s classes. We will be discussing The French and Indian War. The hangout link is on Thursday’s Remote Learning Menu.

I’ve noticed that there seems to be a little less participation this week in regards to Google Hangout and remote learning. Please ask your child to show his/her menu to you so that you are aware of what is being asked of them. I am keeping track of who is completing the assignments and almost every assignment has an “exit slip” or something to turn in with it. I am happy to help your child or you navigate these assignments if needed, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Google Hangout

Thank you to those students who were able to join our Google Hangout this morning.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14th at 11:00 is our next meeting. Students, please try to join us. The link is at the top of the Remote Learning Menu. If your child hasn’t had a chance to complete today’s fluency work on Readworks, please ask them to do that before the meeting tomorrow, as we will be discussing it.

As always, please email me if you have any questions.

Monday, April 13th

Good Morning! I hope that everyone had a nice Spring Break. Mine was different but still enjoyable and relaxing. This week, the students will get a list of assignments each day. This is different than prior to break but it will help us to all be on the same page when we Google Hangout. I have posted the assignments on your child’s Google Classroom Daily 5. They are familiar with this routine and can access it there.

Also different, I will be keeping track of the work that is completed and will let you know if your child isn’t completing any work.

I will hold Office Hours, Monday-Friday from 9:00-11:00. This means that I will be actively checking my email to answer questions or help your child with their lessons. If you need to contact me at any other time, please don’t hesitate to reach out, I will be checking my email throughout the day as well. Mrs. Courtright’s office hours are:  Monday-Friday from 9:15-11:00 and you can email her at courtrl@dearbornschools.org

We will Google Hangout this week:

Monday: 11:00.

Tuesday: 11:00.

Thursday: 11:00 (Mrs. Courtright’s Class too)

Please encourage your child to join in, we will be discussing the topics and lessons covered throughout the week.

Lastly, thank you for all the support and feedback these past few weeks. This is a learning process for all of us and its is great to see so many students participating. Please let me know if I can support you or your child in any way.

Have a great week!

Update

I am waiting for direction from our school district for our continued remote learning before I start planning for the week of April 13th. I am hoping that the remote learning will be similar to what we have been doing, but will most likely include, more Google Hangouts, whole class and small group, as well as, an accountability piece. I appreciate all the feedback and positive thoughts that have been shared with me. I have also truly enjoyed seeing the students faces on our Google Hangouts, I am REALLY missing them.

Thank you for continued support and for supporting your child’s education at home. Any feedback is welcomed, please send me an email, rankac@dearbornschools.org. Remember this next week, April 6-10, is Spring Break so no classwork is required. As always, please encourage your child read daily!

Readworks Assignments

I have checked all of this week’s Readworks assignments, please ask your child to log into Readworks to review their work. If they haven’t submitted their work yet, please encourage them to do so. Some students are forgetting to “submit” after they complete the assignment.
