Spelling Information

FYI:

Spelling is done on a 6 day rotation, so that means that the assessment day changes weekly. I feel that the student need more than the traditional 5 days to learn the spelling of the words, the definitions and be able to use the spelling strategy in unknown words.

I explain which “day” we are on to the students everyday so that they can anticipate the assessment date. I also write the assessment date in the planner when it is getting close. The students write the spelling words in their planners on day 1. The weekly list can also be found on Google Classroom Spelling.

If your child struggles in spelling he/she may have a Weekly Spelling Menu. This is a menu of homework items. If your child has a menu, they should be completing 4 spelling assignment for each 6 day rotation. Please attach all 4 homework assignments to the menu to be turned in to Mrs. Ranka on Day 6: Assessment Day.

Your child may also have an alternate spelling list that it is provided by my colleague. This list can be found on Mrs. Chromicz’s Spelling in Google Classroom.

Please feel to contact me if you have any questions.

Minute To Win It Games

For our September PBIS reward, we played Minute to Win It Games. Your child participated if they kept track of their behavior card all month long, still had at least one letter left on their card and the card was signed by a parent before Tuesday.

This month, the students were given 5 days to get their cards signed. For the rest of the year, they will only be given one night to get it signed. We almost always do the PBIS reward on the last day of the month.

On Tuesday, your child received their October Behavior Card. Now that your child understands the fifth grade expectations, there are less letters. Please speak to your child about appropriate classroom and hallway behavior. This group, although super sweet, is quite chatty and I will soon be taking letters away for being disruptive or not quieting down when asked to.

Camp Balance Due Oct 2

We made 313.49 in the Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser! Thanks to all that participated.  We had donations from Drs. Umlauf, and Levy, Trendsetters Dentistry as well as some cash donations.  The total amount due now is $70 per student.  Please pay in cash or check made to DuVall School by Wednesday, October 2.  Thanks for your support!

September 23-27

DuVall families,
Our students will be painting rocks with your help in preparation for our Peace Day Project. On Thursday, September 26, we are asking parent or guardian volunteers to sign up via signupgenius to help students with this project. Our class will be working on this from 9-9:30ish. During this time, students will get a kindness rock from the PTA and write a message of kindness on the rock with the support of the parent/ guardians volunteers.  On October 3, our students will take their kindness rocks to the butterfly garden and place them so that their message of kindness can be viewed by anyone walking by!  Thank you for your help and support.

Today is the Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser for camp. If you don’t feel like cooking, please head up there with your flyer to help lower the cost of the bus for the trip! Thanks in advance for your participation! Final camp amount will be due by Wednesday, October 2. I’ll let you know the amount once our fundraiser amount comes in by week’s end.

Students will be getting their Unit 1 mid-module math assessment today. Students who received lower than 75% need to have it signed. Everyone, please take a look and check in with your child about it. Overall, scores were pretty darn good! 🙂

Late start Wednesday. Have a great week!
