The week of January 30 – February 3, 2017

Good morning,

We have another busy week.  We begin the second semester (which is also the start of the fourth card marking).  In my Language Arts classes, we will focus on argumentative text features, such as lead, thesis, claim, evidence, transitions, counterargument, refute, clincher.  The students will work independently on one article, then transition into small group work where the students will read an article, then create an argumentative essay, then write the essay on chart paper or create a presentation using Google Slides.

The NWEA Science test will be administered in science class.

Report cards most likely will be handed to each student on Friday, February 3rd.

Be sure to continue your independent reading each night for 20 minutes and filling in a reading response journal entry each time.

Also, the Language Arts department at Unis Middle School will discuss having an “Honors English Class” at the middle school level for the 2017-2018 school year.  Initially, we would like to have one section open for an 8th grade Honors English class.  We would need to set the requirements first, though.  Also, there might be one section open for a 7th grade Honors English class.  This is very exciting news. If you have any thoughts/ideas pertaining to this topic, feel free to share with myself and/or Mr. Farhat, the school principal.

Have a great week!!

Sincerely,

Mr. Drinkert
