Dear First Grade Families, 1-9-17
Happy 2017! I am looking forward to another great year of learning for students. I hope everyone had a relaxing vacation.
Please return the reading and math review packets. We will use them to review for the NWEA reading and math tests that students will take on the computer soon. Also, please return the reading log.
We are starting Unit 5 math lessons. The lessons include learning about less than, greater than, and equal to symbols. Students will also learn about place value; number stories; telling time; counting money; shapes; addition and subtraction.
Reading lessons include folktales, fables, and informational text. Students retell stories using story maps.
Writing lessons include opinion writing. Students write their opinion about a topic, write reasons for their opinion and include a closing sentence.
Social Studies lessons are about the study of Economics. Students learn about consumer needs and wants; goods and services; producers and consumers.
Science lessons continue to focus on weather. Students learn about different weather conditions and tools used to measure weather.
Reminders: Read 15 minutes or more daily for homework. Wear gym shoes on Monday. Return library books on Friday.
Have a great week and wonderful year ahead!
