We will begin Unit 5 Math lessons.  Unit 5 Math lessons include place value; less than, greater than and equal to; story problems; addition and subtraction.

Social Studies lessons continue to include the study of Economics.  Students are learning about goods, services, needs, wants, producers, consumers, and trade.

Science lessons continue to include the study of the sky and weather.

Reminders:  Wednesday, January 20 is a late start.  Read 15 minutes or more daily for homework.  Wear gym shoes on Friday.  Return library books on Friday.

This week we will be taking the NWEA Math test.  Please continue to make sure your child gets a lot of rest and eats a healthy breakfast.

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a nice holiday.    2016 will be a great year of learning for students.

Spelling booklets will be sent home today.  Please sign and return the booklet.  Please continue to make sure your child is doing the spelling homework.  This really helps to prepare them for the spelling test on Friday.

I am sending home a reading log for January.  Please continue to make sure your child is reading 15 minutes or more daily for homework.

Unit 4 Math lessons include measurement; addition; subtraction; telling time; counting money and counting using a number grid.

I hope everyone had a nice vacation.

Math lessons continue to include addition; subtraction; counting using a number line and number grid; counting coins; even and odd numbers; patterns; and telling time.

Our Social Studies unit includes learning about families needs, wants, rules and responsibilities.

Science lessons focus on weather and seasons.  Students are learning about different kinds of weather.

Writing lessons include informational writing.  Students will be writing about different kinds of storms.

I am sending home a story map card for students to practice retelling stories for homework.  For additional homework, you can listen to your child retell stories they are reading from their book bag.

Reminders: Wear gym shoes Monday. Read 15 or more minutes daily.  Return library books on Friday.

Our field trip to the circus is this Friday.  Students are really looking forward to going.

The first report card marking period ends this Friday.  You will receive your child’s report card during Parent Teacher Conferences.  Conferences will be held November 12, 18 and 19.  I am sending home a Conference letter today.

Reminders:  No School on Tuesday, Nov. 3.  We have a half day of school on Friday.

Wear gym shoes on Monday.  Return field trip permission slips for the circus this week.

Dear First Grade Families,                                                                       10-26-15

I have graded the Social Studies tests.  Students did very well on the test.  The test can not be sent home.  I will show you your child’s test score at Parent Teacher Conferences.

Spelling booklets will be sent home today.  Please sign and return.

This week I will send home a study guide for the Unit 2 Math Test.  We will have the test on Wednesday, November 4.  Please help your child review for the test as part of our homework.  The extra practice really helps them do well.

Our Halloween Party is this Friday from 1:00 – 2:00.  Again, students can wear their costumes to school.  We will make crafts, play games, and have snacks.  Please join us, if you have time.  We will walk in the school parade at 2:00.

The whole first grade will be going on a field trip to the Ringling  Brothers Circus on Friday, November 13.  Parent chaperones are welcome.  You must provide your own transportation.  I will provide more information about the field trip soon.

Reminders:  Read for homework 15 minutes or more; October reading logs are due on Monday, November 2; Wear gym shoes on Mondays; Visit library on Friday.
