Dear First Grade Families,                                                              9-19-16

Spelling booklets will be sent home today.  Please sign your child’s test booklet and return it to school.  We use the booklet for spelling tests throughout the year.

This Friday, I am going to give students a math computation test.  Students will have 5 minutes to solve addition problems.  I am sending home practice pages for homework.  This focus is on adding 0 and 1 to various numbers.  We will have math computation tests after students have had a few weeks to practice.  I will let you know when math computation tests are scheduled for the week.

I am sending home a Scholastic book order form.  If you would like your child to order books, please send the completed form back with payment by this Friday, September 23.

Reminders:  Wear gym shoes on Monday. Spelling test on Friday.

Dear First Grade Families,                                                        9-13-16

Once again, our first spelling test will be on Friday.  Please make sure your child does the spelling homework and studies for the test.

Homework also includes reading 15 minutes or more daily.  I will be giving students more books for their book bags soon.  I am currently testing all students to determine their reading levels.

Open House is on Thursday from 6:00 – 7:30.  I hope to see everyone there.  The students are looking forward to showing you our classroom.

On Friday, there is a school assembly called “Proud Like A Lion.”  Students may wear clothing with the name of the Detroit Lions football team, or the colors of the team, to show support.

Please have your child bring a healthy snack and a water bottle each day.

Dear First Grade Families,                                                        9-9-16

Students have been doing a great job working and learning our new routines in class.  I appreciate all of your support getting school supplies and helping students with homework.

We do not have school on Monday, September 12.  I am sending home the first spelling list today so students will have enough time to study for the spelling test.  The first spelling test will be on Friday, September 16.  Our usual routine will be to send a spelling list home on Monday and the spelling test is given on Friday.  There is also spelling homework for extra practice.

Open House will be on Thursday, September 15, from 6:00 – 7:30.  I look forward to meeting everyone.

Our Unit 9 Math Test will be given this Tuesday.  Please help your child review for the test.

Our field trip to the Michigan Science Center is on Thursday.  Please have your child bring a lunch and drink for the field trip.

We will not be having a Spelling Test this week since we do not have school on Friday or Monday due to the Memorial Day vacation.

Please continue to make sure that your child is reading 20 minutes or more daily for homework.

Our planting day is this Friday, 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.  Please have your child wear clothing that is comfortable for planting flowers.  If possible, please have your child bring a flower to school on Friday for planting in the Haigh gardens.

I am sending home a Unit 9 Math Study Guide on Thursday.  We will have the Unit 9 Math Test on Tuesday.  Please help your child study for the test.

Students will take the Unit 8 Math Test on Thursday, May 5.  I will send home a study guide today.  Please help your child study for the test.

On Wednesday, May 4, students will be taking the NWEA Reading Test.  Please make sure your child gets a lot of rest and eats a healthy breakfast.  Also, please encourage them to take their time and try their best.

The first grade field trip to the Michigan Science Center is scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 2016.  Please turn in permission slips as soon as possible.

Students will b taking the Math NWEA test on Wednesday.  Please make sure your child gets a lot of rest and eats a healthy breakfast.  Also, please encourage your child to take their time and try their best.

I am sending home the Unit 7 Math Test.  Please sign and return your child’s test.

Unit 8 Math lessons will include addition; subtraction; counting money; telling time; place value and fractions.

Students needed  more time to study for the Social Test.  They will be taking the Social Studies Test on Wednesday.

Students will also be taking the NWEA Reading and Math tests over the next few weeks.   I  am sending home extra Math homework to review for the test.

First Grade Market Day was a great success.  Students had fun learning more about Economics as they participated in creating and selling their products to student consumers.

Please continue to make sure your child is reading daily 20 minutes or more for homework and completing the Spelling homework.
