Remote Learning Plans May 4 – 8 – Monday – Friday

Dear First Grade Families,

Here are the assignments for the week.  I am posting assignments for the week on my blog, through Class dojo.com, and through readworks.org.  Please help your child complete the assignments.  At this point, students will be earning credit for doing school work and grades will be entered in the grade book.  Students will receive a report card for the online work your child is doing at home.  Please email me anytime if you have questions regarding your child’s online assignments.

Spelling – The spelling words for the week include words with – er, – ir, and

  • ur.  The – er words are ever, teacher, under, ladder, and butter.  The – ir words are first, bird, dirt, girl, and swirl.  The -ur words are burn, hurt, turn, churn, and blurt.  This is for practice at home and does not need to be turned in to me.

Monday – Have your child write rainbow words.

Tuesday – Have your child write sentences.

Wednesday – Have your child write words in ABC order.

Thursday – Have your child write each word two times.

Friday – Give your child a spelling test.

Reading – 20 minutes per day

Monday Reading – Log in to readworks.org and read, “Whom Does He Look Like?”  Answer the questions and submit work.  Read on Raz Kids for extra practice.

Tuesday Reading – Log in to readworks.org and read “One – Room Schoolhouses.”  Answer the questions and submit work.  Read on Reading Eggs for extra practice.

Wednesday Reading – Log in to readworks.org and read, “A Sea Turtle’s Life Story.”  Answer the questions and submit work.  Read on RAZ Kids for extra practice.

Thursday Reading – Read on Reading Eggs or RAZ Kids.

Friday Reading – Read on Reading Eggs or RAZ Kids.

Writing – 20 minutes per day

The writing can include the writing students are doing through readworks.org and the following writing prompt.  Students are learning about opinion writing.  Please have your child write their opinion about their favorite holiday and give three reasons for why they like that holiday.  Holidays can include Christmas, Eid, Easter, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving or Independence Day.

Opinion Writing – Write your opinion of your favorite holiday.  Include a topic sentence, three reasons supporting your opinion, and a closing sentence.  The writing is due on Thursday.  Please have your child include a picture to go with the writing.  You can take a picture of the writing and email it to me or send it through Class Dojo.com

Opinion Writing Plan

Topic Sentence – My favorite holiday is ________.  There are many reasons why ________ is the best holiday.

One reason is _____________________.

Another reason is __________________.

My last reason is ___________________.

Closing Sentence – _________________ is the best holiday because ___________________________________________________________.

Math – 20 minutes per day

For Math practice, students can use Math Seeds or Zearn.  Students can also practice counting money or telling time.  Please have your child go to Knowledge on the Go or the Engage New York website to do the Eureka Math lessons.  You can also use the Succeed Eureka Math book to practice the lessons.

Monday – Do Lesson 26

Tuesday – Do Lesson 27

Wednesday – Do Lesson 28

Thursday – Practice math on Math Seeds or Zearn.

Friday – Practice math on Math Seeds or Zearn.

The only math that needs to be turned in to me are the two math pages I posted on Class dojo.com on 5/4 and 5/5.

Science – Go to the Mystery Science website and follow the first grade Mystery Science lesson, “Why do family members look similar to one another?”

Social Studies – Students are learning about family history.  You can look at photographs of your family with your child and discuss how people are related and family memories.

Please let me know if you need help with any of the online assignments.

The work that I would like your child to turn in by Thursday includes the opinion writing about a favorite holiday; the readworks.org assignments for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; and the two math pages posted on Class dojo.com.
